I was riding my 1125 on the freeway, and all of the sudden it started making a loud whining noise, almost like a jet engine. I pulled over and shut it off and had it towed to my dealer.

I thought it had something to do with the stator, because the sound seemed to be coming from the stator cover. The bike had been wrecked, so there was road rash on the stator cover. My dealer said that harlery won't let them put on a rashed up cover, so i will have to buy a new stator cover. They said $500, i said I will get one from ebr, so i got the cover for $140, and they took the old one off and checked everything inside, they said the stator bolt was a little loose and it was ready to pick up. He also told me that the bike had been ridden hard, he said the valves would need to be adjusted early, the bike has 4k miles on it, he said they need to be adjusted by 6-8k miles.

Then the service guy calls me back and says, I talked to the tech, and he took the bike for a test ride and noticed a ticking noise. The cam chain tensioners are bad. We will have to order parts, i'll call you when they are in.

I just want to hear what you guys think. I was under the impression that when the cam chain tensioners go bad, they disintegrate and plug up the oil pump and seize the motor.
Also, I assume he is going to order the 09 cam chain tensioners, i saw another post that the 2010 engine have a different p/n, which is better? Should i ask them to use the 2010 cam chain tensioners.

I asked him if i should go ahead and have them do the valve adjustment while they are in their replacing the cam chain tensioners. He said they normally charge $550 for the vale adjustment, but he didn't know how much it would be since they already will have access to the motor. What do you guys think, how much to adjust the valves if the frame is already off the bike?

Buell 1125R – 1125CR Recall

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on 10/25/2008

in Motorcycle Recalls,Motorcycle Safety

Buell 1125R and 1125CR RecallBuell has issued a recall for some 2008 and 2009 Buell 1125R and 1125CR motorcycles for problems with the rear cylinder cam chain tensioner. Please read the details below.

Manufacturer: Buell Motorcycle Company
Model Year: 2008-2009
Models affected: 1125R, 1125CR
NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V554000
Potential Units Affected: 140
Problem: Buell is recalling 140 model year 2009 1125CR and model year 2008 1125R motorcycles. These motorcycles can experience a premature failure of the rear cylinder cam chain tension guide (part number F0020.1AM). This can cause plastic debris to block the oil pump screen, possibly leading to oil starvation and engine seizure. This condition may allow the engine to seize, resulting in rear wheel lock-up. This could result in a crash, which could cause injury or death to the rider.

Corrective Action: Dealers will replace the rear cam chain tensioner. The recall is expected to begin on or about October 20, 2008. Owners may contact Buell at 1-414-342-4680.

Only issue that im aware of...

I think you can enter your VIN here and it will let you know of any recalls. If not, post it here and I or someone else can check it for you. Your dealer can too.
