Ok I know this is long but I need some help guys. I have a problem with my bike and not having any luck trouble shooting. Two weeks ago i rotated the engine and did valve clearence checks. I had to change shims in 6 of the valves. Everything went great. I changed the plugs. The screen on bottom of engine was clear. I put everything back together and all was good for several days. This past friday while riding to work several times it felt like something was holding me back then all of sudden it would brake loose. The tach stays steady. The bike isn't missing or running bad its just like im tied to a tree. I thought the throttle might have been hanging. I took the airbox off and checked everything. I unhooked both ends of cables and oiled. I rode it for about 50 miles. It was better but still a problem. I took both wheels off, checked both brake calipers and pads. Still couldn't find a problem. So I took the rear pads completely out and rode with the same problem. When it happens the nose of bike doesn't dive or pull like the front is grabbing. I don't see any indications the belt or pullys are hanging on anything. It happens in several different gears usually between 4000 and 5500 rpms. Anybody got ideas on what I have missed?

Just a thought, but sounds like the active intake system is working, if the bike was de-noided have you accidentally reconnected the solenoid ?

It is de-noided and the cylinder is completely taken off the bike. I don't get any kind of light or anything.

Sounds like firing on one cylinder then chiming in suddenly on two. leads? Caps?

Ok I will give that a try. I will check the plugs and both coils.

"I pulled out the 1125R motor and completely took it apart to find the binding gear. Mainshaft and the suspected 5th gear looked okay, the 5th gear was still the old type so it was a good thing we opened up the engine and we replaced it anyway. We did find a piece of plastic that was being chewed trough the gears, we still are puzzeling were that piece was coming from and how it ended up in the engine, all shields, guards, guides and plastic gears were okay."

cmmfiremedic, have you got a Erik Buell Racing ECM ? similar symptoms i'm experiencing, but with the standard ecm im getting fault codes but bike runs great ?

You mention that oiling the cables helped, that would suggest something is binding or a return spring is not doing its job somewhere in the throttle area, I'm just thinking it is most likely to be connected to something that happened during the engine rotation you just did, the old adage, check what you did last.

I have went threw everything I did except the spark plugs I changed.

Did you tie the linkages together when you removed the solenoid?

I tied the linkage last night and reset the TPS and still have the same problem this morning.

A friend of mine has a Gold Wing that suddenly started having similar problems to what you are having. He had a pair of gloves under the seat that got sucked into the intake. You might want to check the intake to see if anything might be blocking it. It's a long shot but you never know.

When you dropped the engine it is possible that one of the engine breather hoses that go into the airbox is not routed exactly right - others have reported that this can cause the throttles to "stick" as it rubs against the hose - do a search of the archives as the info should be in there somewhere.
