I was tracking the bike on Friday and had a weird thing happen. Fired up the bike in neutral to warm it up before maybe the third session. Into first gear, release clutch, bike dies (like the brakes were on). Tried again, same thing, and knew it wasn't the brakes. Put bike back in neutral and tried rolling it back and forth - locked moving forward, would roll backwards fine (in neutral), but not forward - crap, screwed tranny!

I shift through gears, up and down, back to neutral, start the bike, go to first, let off clutch and there is still a drag in the drive line. OK - ride it a bit and see what happens. A lap around the parking lot and I hear (I think) a whirring noise. not loud, from the tranny.

So, like the genius I am, I go ahead and take it out on the track and ride tentatively for the first lap, being careful to be upright and moving in a straight line when I shift. Come off, check for leaks, shifting problems, go back on (wondering if I'm going to lock up at speed) and ride another couple of spirited sessions with no problems.

Best I came come up with is that somehow I got between gears - any thoughts? It only happened once.... I thought I saw another post on this, but didn't find it in the search option.

It's unlikely that this is the case but something just to check. You have an 08 don't you?

Do you know if the recall (0834) was done for the 5th gear oil jet?

Like I say, it's probably not that but something you may want to check

Jules - I do have an '08 and am not sure about that particular recall. I will double check with dealer today. Thanks.

Jeff, below is the recall that you might need if, in fact it IS the problem. A track day where you were in 5th gear for a while at high speed might just cause the galling 2008 1125's have exibited. What it does is limit oil flow to the clutch and retain more in the trans.

I had mine done as soon as I got the recall by SV HD and evidently they did the work OK but left the oil level down too much, one qt.low, and could have created yet another problem if I hadn't caught it before I left that day. I do not trust them at all. If you would like to hear my whole experience with them PM me. Of course your experience, hopefully, may be much better. Bob

Bob - I was running MMP. 2nd and 3rd most of the track, only hit 5th for a short bit before having to shut it down into curve 1. I had not been running 5th under sustained power for more than 5-10 seconds per lap.

I sent Scott over at SVHD an email to double check the records on my 1125. Will post results - I may have to crack the case to see whether there is any noticeable damage - I'm hoping it was just some kind of flukey deal. All I need is one more thing to worry about.

Yeah, sorry I didn't mean to worry you. The chances are it's not that issue but it's probably worth checking..

Jules - thanks for the heads-up. I checked the H-D service site and my 1125 does indeed have an outstanding recall notice (#0838). I do not recall getting a letter from H-D - I guess that should be no surprise.

My nearest warranty dealer is several hundred miles away, I regularly track the bike and have effectively voided the warranty (If someone wanted to get picky). Does anyone have details on #0838, like the actual service bulletin? That way I can make the call myself as to whether I take it in (and take my chances), or just do the fix myself.

Thanks to all for your help.

If I remember correctly that was the front brake line relocation. They moved it to the outside of the fork and installed a new retainer bracket and a new stick on protector on the fork. I did mine myself, before the brake hose started to rub. The issue was the hose could contact the tire or fender and rub through.

I went by my (former Buell) dealer today and gave the service manager the skinny on what I (thought I) knew.

He confirmed trans jet recall performed 10/1/08, prior to my purchase. I am pretty confident that they did the work. I know they rerouted brake line, replaced front header, current flash, etc. So I mentioned that I would probably go ahead and tear into it over the winter and see if there are any bits and pieces laying around in there - he says "probably a good idea". So there you have it.

If anyone can get a copy of the service bulletin (along with repair part #'s and procedures)for the trans jet recall, I'd appreciate it. That way, I'll know what to look for... the H-D link to the service data would not allow me to open the bulletin, or I'd just do it meself.

Nevermind - found what I needed here:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/B075.pdf

Should have known it would be better to check BW instead of H-D for what I need. And Mike, you are correct. 0838 is brake line reroute - that is the one showing up as 'unresolved' on my service thingy. I know that got done. 0834 is the one I guess I needed to check and it appears this was done, too.

Just because you ain't paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

Thanks again to those who chimed in...
