Well, I finally got off my butt and took off the HMF this weekend.

To back up a few months, after picking up my bike in early Spring and putting 300 miles on it, I researched a decent slip-on and decided on the HMF.

Not only was the HMF no fun to install, but I was kinda taken off guard how much a pain the OEM can was to remove. Once complete, I fired the bike up and was impressed with both the type of sound the HMF put off, and even more in how loud it was... as in too loud. It had a nice "type of sound", but way too loud IMO, if you know what I mean. After putting only 50 miles on it, I parked the bike and hadn't ridden it anymore until today, after reinstalling the OEM exhaust.

Yes, my bike sat for SEVERAL months, mainly because I knew the OEM can was gonna be NO FUN to put back on (I also have 4 other bikes so that is why I didn't get motivated sooner)... and I was right. All I can say when the stock exhaust was engineered, there was no consideration given on easily removing and or replacing it. I am sure if I were to do it a few more times, it would get easier, but I hope I don't find out, if you know what I mean.

It is good to get the CR back on the road and put some mile on it before the weather turns. I just love staring at this bike when I get off of it!

Anyway, if anyone is looking for an HMF, keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds. I will be putting mine up for sale as soon as I get some smaller pics to post. It has a black can and I have both a black and a red endcap to go with it and all hardware and instructions.

I have the oem can down to around 15 mins for removal and 20mins to refit.

I can fit my UK stealth can in 15mins easy

Mind you i have had them on and off half a dozen times in the last 3 months.

Stuuk,

Kudos, but better you than me brother. There is no way I can see myself doing this enough times to get good at it.

It does get better and faster the more you do it. I've had mine on and off a few times now and it no longer frustrates me. The rust that comes right through the paint frustrates me...but the process is pretty simple.

Storm,

"The rust that comes right through the paint frustrates me..."

I don't understand what you mean. Rust, on what parts exactly?

the OE is a rust bucket big time. I've had mine off and on a few times modifying it and this last time i shot it with the VHT exhaust paint. got my wraps at the same time look s sooo much better now. the rear mount bracket on the right side is a water collection point and it was rather rusty in the recess it creates i didn't think about it when i had it off but i think i should pop a small drainage hole in it.
