Thursday morning pkforbes and went to hit the curves in Eureka Springs and was having a great time. During our ride I went down pretty hard going into a corner at about 35 mph. I'm not sure what realy happened and why I went down, it just happened all so fast. I remember feeling like I was on ice before I went down. I ended up breaking 4 ribs, my left scapula and tore up my left knee. The bike is damaged pretty bad hitting the jagged rock as it went off the road.

While I was in the ER , pkforbes and my father inlaw droped the bike off at pig trail hd for the estimate. While they where loading and unloading the bike they seemed to beleive that something on the bike failed. The bike will roll backwards but the rear tire locks up when rolling coward while in neutral and even with the clutch pulled in.

I guess my question is how do I handle this with insurance an hd while I am stuck in bed for the next 60 days. Also how do I investigate what may have failed?

Thank you and be certain to wear your gear.
God bless

I know this was on the 08's, but it's not to say this didn't happen to you. There was a local guy with a CR that wrecked a few months ago and he thought his rear tire locked up on him but wasn't sure because he don't remember most of it!

I'm sorry: why do you have to explain to the insurance what happened?

I think having no clue, injuries, a wrecked bike and a witness covers it. That's the way mine played out.

The police want a story but the insurance will rely more on the police report than yours. Police will get the story from witnesses. Any charges laid?

For the police: mechanical failure will trump a reckless charge. Takes some arguing but that part is important.

Go with Brumbear's advice: keep it simple and honest.

Get well.

I think the main thing is what failed and if it was a failure how many other bikes are the same?

Sorry it happened and hope you heel up quickly.

That story is not related to this one at all. Or I'm completely missing the connection.

I can't remember my point of impact, no idea. I remember the situation and the braking and then the ouch.

Stoner two weeks ago: the pros have no idea what happened.

Pedrosa yesterday: the pros have no idea.

Although these are racers on a closed circuit, those two were not up to racing speeds and went down. Video, computer and expert witnesses can't tell just what happened.

Sounds like yours is a basic one they hear about every day.

Relax and get well.

btw: cops took pity on me, well, they laughed. In the hospital, the investigating officer said that I got the worst of it, why would he write a ticket. His superior later made a similar joke and said there would be no ticket.

Oh, and something else I learned when I renewed my car insurance. It's with a different company. The bike accident stays with its own insurance so I don't get hit by the car rates. They don't double dip. I had the forgiveness so neither of my rates went up.

If I had quit riding, the car rates would have gone up.

So there's another reason to keep healing and plan on riding: keep your car rates low.

Did you have the cam tensioner recall done? I remember there being a possibility of the motor locking up if it wasn't done.

Get well soon.

There is no cam tensioner recall that I am aware of... I do remember thinking the engine sounds more marbley than normal.

There was no citation given for the accident. The bike will most likey be totaled, the frame is dinged by the gas tank area. Overall though it did crash well.

Yea there was a recall for that. I know it was on the early 09's. I got the letter not soon after I bought the bike.
