I've read a few posts on here about reversing the air flow through the rads and keeping the fans. The project is underway. I've been taking pictures as I go and will attempt to post up here once I'm finished. I have the factory fairing so adding the required venting is not so big of a deal. The plan has been to move the fans from inside to outside the rads. While taking things apart I noticed that the spacing between the mounting bolts for the overflow tank and two of the three mounting bolts for the fan seemed quite close. They are actually an exact fit so this has determined the location for the right side fan and the left will be made to match. So far no major issues, just a lot of time fiddling and trimming cardboard templates. My goal is to move enough air through the rads at lower (in town 50/60 km) speeds that the fans do not come on. I realize that the system the way it currently is was likely optimized to work at much higher (track) speeds and that my mods will undoubtedly cause greater drag, but my motor and everything close to it should be cooler and happier (including me) The stator should also not have to work as hard so hopefully everything will be that much more trouble free.

I have been fiddling with ideas about this for some time so I am very interested to see how it is working out.

couldnt you just reverse the flow of the fan and cut a vent whole in the pod/fairing, like the ram air GSD full fairing kit and be done with it...then put the fans on a switch so at higher speeds you can just turn them off??

For sure there are easier ways to do this then the one I've chosen. You could reverse the wires to the fans, run them backwards, put a couple of scoops around them and leave the outer pod covers off. That would be simpler and faster ..... but I am sure I wouldn't be a fan of the looks. Putting a switch in would result in two new fault codes(one for each of the fans when the ECM detects that they are no longer connected). Here is a peek at the right hand side thus far.

I was hoping not to have to add additional fasteners along the top and bottom edges, but the contours of the two plastic parts are not quite right and needed some "coaxing" to fit without any gaps. The fan motor will have spacers that will move it in closer to the rad, but you can see that there is already sufficient room between it and the fairing.

I was planning on doing this over the winter so I'm real interested in seeing how it works. What are you doing to move air through the radiators when the fans are off. Are you placing some air scoops where the fans were?

Yes Blk, there are / will be three scoops behind and one above the rad. One round one the same diameter as the fan, feeding the fan from behind. A second one supplies air to the front corners and the area below the fan, the third and fourth supply air to the back 1/3 of the rad. Of those two the one behind the rad is fairly large and the upper one uses what is left of the pod above the leading edge of the rad and essentially directs the incoming air around, up and over the upper tank then down behind to cool the rear third of the rad. If you look at the picture above, in the rear vent you can see the cardboard template for the rear scoop. It pretty much follows the contours of the cast aluminum mounting bracket for the pod but continues forward and above the front exhaust header. I will post pictures once I have my cardboard alchamized into aluminum
