Hi guys I just picked up a 2009 1125r (which is awesome btw.)I have owned a couple of 2008's and i noticed this one seems to be making noise by the stator or somewhere on that side. its a seperate clanking noise from the engine and goes away after 5k rpms. Voltage is fine and its been going on for 600 miles. Im probably just paranoid. I can already see my local harley dealer saying everything is fine without even inspecting the bike. So does anyone have any idea or have a 1125r close to ashland ohio that i can hear to compare engine noise with. Thanks for your responses.

They are noisy. Your probably hearing the counter balance gears. I add a half a quart of lucas during every oil change and it does make it a lot quieter IMHO. Also check your oil. I swear that sound is louder when its at the low mark.

If it happens right off idle, it might be the nut that holds all the stator, etc., together. I had mine back off. Sounded like a loose timing chain slapping around, or valve clatter. Dealer took the whole top end apart to check valve clearance (which btw @ 7K was spot on), gave it back to me and said ride it till something happens.

Anyway, have them pull the stator cover off, and check all is tight there.

Ok, I had a 'loud' noise as well, it took some checking, but here's a problem that CERTAIN early model 1125R's seem to have.

The TIMING GEARS on crank... There was a group of them that were not properly heat treated (so says my expert Mechanical dude) and they will actually start to grind down and cause the gears to slip and become noisy! This was repaired on my bike as a Warranty item (just had to raise some hell since I'd brought it in and the 'expert' H-D service guy said "Oh, that's normal as they bikes break in..." Uh, NO!)

Get yours checked since if it is this problem, while you may be in for a little tug of war with them over the whole warranty thing, it's a lot cheaper in the long run then tearing the motor apart when the gears finally fail and they say you're too late or something...

bet its the stator nut...i believe there is an update on the torque ..think its suppose to be 300 lbs torque...my engine noise was as loud at idle as the fmf exhaust...now all i hear is the exhaust..have someone competent check the stator nut torque..think u will be pleasantly surprised!

Well all of your ideas are certainly enough to get me started i didnt noticed it seemed quieter at lunch time today could the stator nut be a intermittent noise???

sometimes a little quieter than other times...sounded like lifters..sortof...but made a HUGH difference once torqued to specks...i mean my engine is relatively quiet now...ask your servicing dealerdealer if they have the updated info on the torque nut..like i said earlier i believe it was updated to 300lb torque...i love the sound and speedof this Buell!
