The last few rides I've been on, I've noticed my battery light coming on when I'm stopped, or in neutral. Once it came on after a good, hour-long ride in the heat, today I took it out and the light came on when I started it, went off when I started riding, came back on at a red light, etc. It finally stayed off after a good long run on the highway.

Is this an issue? Or just a quirk of our bikes? I never noticed it when the bike was new, it now has almost 4000kms on it, and I'd say the light started coming on around 500kms ago.

(2009 1125R by the way)

It seems like another isolated incident of stator burn.

Check out out the other threads on stator/regulator. You will have to take it in at the dealership possibly to swap those two.

PS. When riding go in battery mode and check you voltage.

edited for spelling

I've had that issue.. got the voltage regulator replaced and the harness wiring redone, and it went away.

Then I had to have my motor replaced, and after finally getting my bike back it's doing the exact same thing as you describe.

ARGGGHHH!!!!!

fwiw I have never had my stator replaced, and the bike was never ridden WITHOUT the harness. And it's tested OK every time I go to the dealer. I think it is a stator issue if you get a CEL and a warning light on your LCD, so you might be good with a voltage regulator replacement.

Hi guys,

OK so I went for a ride last night (getting pretty cool up here, rides are few and far between!), and I rode in battery mode.

After a short ride, we stopped for 5 mins. I started the bike up and was at 11.8. Rode for about 15 minutes, at top speed it was reading 13.9/14.0. That dropped slightly as I slowed, and sitting at red light it dropped to about 12.8.

Is this normal? Battery light came on once during the evening, after the starting the bike up after we stopped for coffee, turned off in about 20 seconds.

Can someone dumb it down for me, if I do in fact have a problem?
