...the shop is working this as we speak.

Had the bike (2008) in the shop for the 12K service. She went in running like a champ but came out three weeks later bleeding and hyper.

As far as the bleeding goes, well they are looking into where the oil is coming from and will fix. Not too concerned there other than for the price I paid for the service I didn't think I would get a dripping Harley back.

As far as being hyper, she idles at around 1400 in neutral, good to go. However when I put it in gear she automatically jumps to 2200-2500 and has been as high a 3000 while going down the road with the clutch lever pulled in while shifting gears and or sitting at a light in gear. They say it isn't throwing any codes and Harley tech says it electrical.

Any thoughts?

What did the dealer exactly service on the bike? Did they touch any parts of the clutch or slave cylinder? Did they touch anything around the throttle bodies?

Vacuum leak?

good question...the 12K service should be the valve check. SO when they rotate the engine there is no telling what they get into. I would assume the throttle bodies have to come off to do the service.

I would expect a vacuum leak to be present all the time, not just when in gear with the clutch pulled in...but I don't really know.

Do you have the race ecm?

If you do the high idle is why you don't have much engine braking

Do not have the race ECM. Do you? And if so, is your idle up between 2200 and 2500?

Is there a vacuum line that controls the Idle?

Of course these are all just talking points because I have the utter most confidence that my dealer will make it right.

Thats what I was thinkin', readjust your clutch lever, see if that might help.

Hmmm...Scratching head. Pardon me for being a tad illiterate, but it's a hydraulic clutch. The only adjustment I am aware of beyond bleeding is the distance between the lever and the grip. It shifts fine so I assume there is plenty of throw at the current setting to build the required pressure.

your clutch switch might the problem then.

Go into Daig mode and scroll through the readouts, there's one that displays if the clutch switch is working (will change from 0 to 1 as you pull in and release the lever).

If the readout changes, that's bad news and you're on your own. If it doesn't change, check the wiring and connectors for the switch or replace the switch if they all look good.

the rpm change seems to be too high to be caused by the clutch switch. the stock eeprom only raises the rpms by 200 when the clutch is being released. most ebr ecm's don't even use dashpot. keep us posted

The "high" idle in gear is what keeps engine braking to a minimum. When I installed my brembo clutch I disconnected the switch and it behaves exactly as he is describing

Harley Techs think all REAL MOTORCYCLES leak oil They were just trying to help you out

+1 Ken...that's probably why they didn't think anything of it.

Well dealer tells me the oil leak was because the valve cover gasket didn't seat. No worries there, easy fix.

Regarding the idle...Tech services from HD says it "probably" a bad ECM but there is no way to test that with out ordering a new one and swapping it out.

So, looks like I will be taking her home trying the fixes mentioned here. Starting with the Clutch switch. Thanks for your advice, I'll let you know what I find out.

If they over or under adjust the valves could that cause this. They only reason I say that is upon my first start up it backfired a couple times and was squeaky. And it seams to be making more valve train noise...well more noise than the usual sewing machine sounds that is.

Second times a charm. When they fixed the valve gasket leak they must have slowed down on reassembly. Idle is normal and she is back to being the buell I bought.

Thanks for your advice, I'm glad I didn't have to use it this time.

Sorry guys, I know this is a REALLY REALLY old thread but I would like to revive it just to post the actual fix for this issue. I did some searching because I had this exact problem following my 12k service and it is caused by the clutch switch not talking to the ECM. In my case due to me not plugging it back in, but for others could be due to a switch failure. HTH someone down the road.
