How long did it take you 1204cc owners to get comfortable with your 1125's. I have almost 6000 miles and it is just starting to become 'familiar'; I am not getting caught in the wrong gear and am using more of the motor's mid range in the turns.

About 5 feet.

Never had any issues with wrong gear or any of that. I can hop between bikes without issue too. I guess having power from all the way from 2000rpm to redline on both bikes helps. I do find myself trying to find 7th gear all the time on the 1125's, they are geared too short in my opinion. The XB isn't as bad, but I still want that 6th gear for that.

I will say that if I shift between an X-1 or XB and an 1125, it takes me about a half hour to recombobulate. That is part of the fun though in my opinion.

I have 8500 miles on my 1125r and Im just now getting close to as comfortable as I am on my XB9. My only issue with differences between bikes is I keep hitting the rev limiter on the 9 now. A lot...

This is funny to see, because I don't think I've ever gotten mine out of 4th, and probably 95% of my riding on the track is 2nd and 3rd, and on the street in 3rd and 4th.

Getting used to the 1125 revs after 20+ years of H-D products, plus an '00 Millennium edition X1 ... That took me about 200 miles, and then got even more fun once the engine was past break-in.

The harder part for me is now going backwards. Whoa, where did my revs go? Why am I accelerating so slowly? Are my brakes dragging? Does this bike weigh a ton, or is it just me? Stuff like that ...

Perhaps reaching for the extra gear means I am still getting used to the buzzyness.

Remember you have over 50 years of technology to catch up with. And the "looking for another gear" can serve to keep you at not quite so illegal speeds.

Took me a little while because I had been riding a V-Rod for a month and a half after crashing my XB12R. Probably a couple hours. Bike was overdue for first service only 5 days after I bought it, so we were definitely spending plenty of quality time together.

I don't think I've found the limits of the bike yet after nearly 60,000 miles; just pushing against my own limits.
It's still more bike than I can really use even after having fun at the track a few days ago.

Ditto. Wish my V-Rod had a 6th gear, too.

Not to hijack, but nice track vid, how & where'd you mount the cam?

Thanks.

BTW, here's a better quality version of the video.

I put the camera up under the nose using the standard flat surface mount that comes with the ContourHD camera. It's mounted "upside down", but the ContourHD's rotating camera housing allows me to rotate the camera back to level.

Good things about that mounting spot are that nobody knows a camera is under there and I can actually start/stop the camera without dismounting by turning the forks full lock right and reaching through the hole between the frame/fairing and left radiator pod down to the camera to slide the switch. I used to not have to even turn the forks and could start/stop the camera while moving, but the clutch cable was changed/rerouted at some point and is now in the way. I think it was done the last time I had the clutch piston actuator problem.

Chameleon, would I be out of line asking what you paid for the ContourHD camera, or where you got it ... Sponsor here perhaps?

I've never thought of buying a camera for my bike, but after seeing your video, I am now. Not a great rider, but fun all the same!

Glad to be an inspiration.
The only problem with recording your riding is the time it takes to do proper editing and the upload limitations in place on most video sites is an annoyance as well. I still have footage from TWO vacations to go through and edit... I just don't have the time.
My Artists Drive - the descent video is only 8 minutes out of 7.1gb of footage from my vacation in 2008. I just rode down to SoCal last month and returned with 16gb of video. I almost need a vacation to edit and process my vacation videos!

I originally purchased a VholdR standard definition camera kit with a charger for about $400 from Helmet Camera Central. Then I upgraded to the Contour HD 720p unit when it first came out for $100 which was an awesome special offered by the manufacturer for current customers. They even let me keep the original VholdR unit, which I do still use occasionally to capture other angles or footage from the V-Rod when my wife is out riding it with me on the 1125R.

I can use the Windshield mount on the radiator pod, the airbox cover, or tail section plastics; or I can attach it to my H-D V-Rod using the handle bar mount. There is truly a myriad of mounting solutions available.

I have found keeping it above 3400 rpm's will keep the engine from lugging and the stator works better.

Cool idea on the mounting, I'll look at that. I have a ContourHD1080p, although I almost always do 720p setting. Agree on the editing. Here's a raw vid from a supermoto track warm-up session, I just do the helmet or goggle mount.

Nice video Dman. Supermotos are really fun!

Hey what rpm do you guys ride the 1125r at when your cruising say on the highway or through a school zone.

I typically cruise at 4,000 RPM +/- 500 RPM.

20 mph in 1st gear is about 3k RPM. School zones did pose a challenge very early on before the first ECM flash to correct the fueling map. After the update, it was better, but not quite smooth. Since I removed the inner airbox, the bike is very smooth down to about 2,500 RPM and happily grunts on down the road from 2K RPM on when accelerating. Previously, accelerating from below 3K RPM was awful and sounded like I was breaking the motor.

i think short shifting it for the break-in period set me off to a bad habbit. that and coming from an XB9. i now find my self at the revlimiter on the 1125 if i let my self get caught into it. i have no issues going back to the 9, but find my self slipping the clutch on it.

at 1500 mi on the clock, i was over the 'brand-new-ness' and was comfy leaning it. i am now at 5700 and i am still impressed with the power. the 9 is familiar, and un-frightening. the 1125 is bold and encouraging.

the 9 is comfy like an old set of loafers, and the 1125 my new pair of running shoes.
