A couple people asked for more detail on the install of this horn.

I am here to tell you that it has been a godsend in LA traffic. With the improved quality of in-car stereo systems and weatherstrip/body sealing, you gotta have some serious db to wake the dozing dipshits behind the wheel.

One recent event is a good example. I'm riding along the freeway with a friend, slight stagger, same lane. We're in the #1 lane and rolling along just a tad north of the speed limit. I'm in second position about 2 bike lengths behind him. Cars are starting to back up in the #2 lane, and a guy starts to pull out in front of us even though he's going 20 mph slower. My friend toots his stock horn (suzuki gsxr), the car keeps coming. I hit and hold the my horn button and the guy immediately jumps back into his lane just in time for me to ride by. I'm thinking he thought it was a truck. ha ha.

Given how relatively cheap these things are and how crappy the stock horns are... and how MOST car/bike accidents come along with that most assinine of phrases, "I didn't see him..." it doesn't make sense not to get one of these.

Downsides: they're heavy and hard to hide on a naked bike. Probably lots of good places to stash one of these inside the 1125R fairing.

I initially had it behind the bikini fairing, but it was kind of gumming up the works in there and I could feel the weight up high like that. Plus a lot of the sound got muffled or channeled back at me.

I finally figured this spot out -- low and on the lefts side of the engine. I fitted a mild galvanized steel bar (1/4" by 1.5" about 8" in length) that hangs it from the same mount as the oil radiator, and then I just used heavy gauge safety wire to keep it from vibrating. It's not a perfect install, but it's easy to remove for track days and doesn't fall off (well, it hasn't fallen off yet).

Does it draw to much power? On the website, it says "under 18" amps. That seems like alot of power draw. Can you please post up some pictures of how you wired it up and were you hid the relay? I am interested in putting this on my bike, as I live in cali and i commute in la traffic. I have people cut me off all the time. The other day i had a situation similar to yours, a guy cut into my lane, except he was going 5 mph and i was going 45 mph. I had to lock up the back tire to keep from getting hit.

Dktechguy:

Send me a message with your contact info. If you're in LA, maybe we can meet and I can just show you

On my visit New York last week i did notice how you yanks love the horn, it's not really used much here in the UK, well not as a warning, just a good telling off : )

+1 on the Stebel Air horn.

Hey Natty, can you please post a pic of the mounting hardware you used? Basically I want to see shots of your setup with the horn out of the way to get a better understanding of how you mounted the unit. I need to replace mine because it died after only a few months in the fairing. :-(

Natty - you say they are "heavy". How much can a little thing like that weight? Looks pretty compact.

I have never been satisfied with the stock dinky toy horn.

Xodot, the site suggests 1.3#. That should not slow us down that much : )
