There has been a lot of talk about the stator problems on the 2009 R/CR bikes. However, I haven't seen any easily accessed numbers relating to how many problems there have been. Below is the link to a survey I created to try and get at least a little more solid info on what is going on. I may have missed some important questions, but this is the best I could put together on a first try. Please be honest and only respond if you have a 2009 model. If you have more than one 2009 R/CR, fill out the survey once for each bike. Once it looks like there have been a decent number of surveys filled out, I'll post the results for all to enjoy. yes, very good idea. Only thing that might have made it better was to have everyone put some details about their bike - year/model, month of manufacture, etc. That way MAYBE we could track the problem ourselves. | |||

8 and 9 are shit questions. One posed as a double negative will confuse people ("no" is "yes") and one is a leading question with no option for "not an issue" | |||

done. My stator at 4600 miles is acting up so I can't say second failure but it IS happening the same way just at a slower rate. | |||

Done. You'd think with all these failure's that it would be a recall item and get it fixed properly. I realize that HD doesn't want to develope a new stator,or a re-designed one,but all these failure's have to be costing them a lot of cash. Oh,and BTW mine hasn't failed,but it had the harness(upgrade)with only 125 mile's on the clock. | |||

Sorry for putting "shit" questions. The sample size will be small compared to the 6000ish (just a guess since our model numbers produced doesn't break out by year) 2009 bikes that were built, maybe only 3%. However, it is better than nothing. Thanks for everyone who has responded. | |||

Surveys are difficult to get right so they are any kind of reasonable indicator. It is difficult to properly word a survey to avoid leading the participant to a bias. Your questions exhibit an enormous bias. Additionally, it is difficult to ask simple questions about complex concepts. Yet, a failure to do so results in participants just "whatevering" their answers. Confusing use of double negatives is a good example of a question that will not yield a good result, because participants don't know how to answer it. Finally, getting a statistical sample without bias or agenda and distributed randomly enough is critical to having an accurate reflection of a greater population. In short, I don't think you will come to any kind of accurate conclusion about stator and electrical failures with 09 bikes outside of what that survey tells you about Badwebbers who voted. It's simply too poorly constructed and executed in too ad-hoc a fashion without control groups and references to make any kind of accurate statistical prediction about the Buell owner population at large. I used to do some work with focus groups and consumer packaged goods market research, and let me tell you, doing the research *well* is no easy task. Jdugger, Thanks for elaborating on your earlier comment about the shit questions. So why didn't you lend your expertise to develop a survey of your own that is free from bias already? Clearly you have both the free time based on the number of posts you put on this site, and a deep interest in this topic. I suspect that you are one of those people that is more interested in letting others know your opinion and how sharp you are than actually doing work that accomplishes a tangible product. Please don't waste your time responding to prove me wrong once again, because I'm done reading what you have to type. Not because I'm right and you're wrong; in this case it appears that you are definitely correct. It's just because you're an ass. | |||

Confusing use of double negatives is a good example of a question that will not yield a good result, because participants don't know how to answer it. I was wondering if anyone was going to comment on the last question in the survey....I think I answered it correctly but I can see how it could easily be confusing. | |||
