How many miles do you have on it Fresno? I just rolled over 7,600 miles (harness at 2,000 miles or so) and Ginger died last night at 8.6 Vdc.

The trick it to do 7 or 8 1.5 mile trips in half an hour and see what the charging system does. Or doesn't do.

Do you really ride like that? I don't know anyone who rides like that. And besides, I bet that type of riding would tax lots of bikes' charging systems.

How many miles do you have on it Fresno?

I have over 4,000 miles on the 09 and less than 1,000 on the new harness.

It would tax pretty much any vehicles charging system, mostly from the starter motor draining the battery and not allowing sufficient time to recharge it. Although I have done similar riding without issue, I would recommend avoiding it regardless of car, bike, boat, or whatever you use for transportation.

I do two (sometimes four) 1.2 mile trips most days in my truck. by the time im a mile down the road the battery is more then replenished from being started.

Worst part is not getting that oil hot enough to clear out the condensation in the motor and trans.

A good charging system can easily handle multiple mile trips. Now, multiple 20 foot trips....maybe not..

But on another note, I let my engine (bike, car or truck) warm up a good minute or 2 before pulling off which might make a big difference.

I rode my 1125R on a trip to SoCal earlier this month. 3,876.1 miles and no problems at all.
Thank God because I was riding alone!

I agree that any vehicle will have difficulty coping with a lot of short trips.

My wife's 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT suffers from this because she works 3 or 4 days a week only 15 minutes from home, and doesn't get the engine over 2,500 RPM much. It's hard to start after she's been driving it for a while. When I drive it, I make sure to keep it over 2,500 RPMs (it's a Turbo after all, so I like to have fun with it), and it starts a lot better after I've been driving it.

The Shop is only 9 miles from my house.
Been commuting on the Uly, riding Loretta once or twice a week.
I take the expressway in and the long way home usually, NEVER any electrical issues other than a broken Ign switch wire... twice.

All rideability issues went away when I got tuning SW from Dave and made better with an ECM from Erik.

I am getting VERY attached to the Uly. It rides so smooth, almost cush compared to the harsh sport-feel Loretta has.

I hope I don't ever have to get rid of one of them, it would be a VERY hard decision.

My old S-1 left me stranded about 6 times due to battery problems. My 1125R got a new battery when I bought it and lives on a tender most of the time, so far so good.

Other than the puddle of gas it leaves when I park it the bike has been great.

This thread was intended to be a spoof on the multiple "I got stranded" threads on the Board.

Do like the others and sell your bike, make a big thread about it then leave. People like you need an IL4 Japanese bike to go along with your helmet mohawk.

jackgraves,
Why do you say the 1125's are junk?
Mine has been rock solid since i got it.
you must not go on a lot of other forums, this is the place where people post problems, most people just go ride.

Sorry guys I've seen a lot of issues here and there on this forum and I get scared it will leave me stranded. I only had the leaking clutch issue at 1100 miles and since then it has been fine. I guess ill just ride it more any not worry if it will break down on me.

Best plan is to just ride her (HARD -- she likes it that way & begs for more) and deal with whatever happens.

ANYTHING man-made is prone to failure. Not just Buells. I've heard about plenty of HonYamaKawaZuki's grenading, burning lots of oil, and having other major issues.

Here's most of what I've dealt with. Some of it is self-inflicted (like when I looped it).

Jack Graves,

you have a leaking clutch issue and you call the bike a piece of junk? I am on dodge truck forums, ktm forums, polaris forums, and harley forums. You know what i found out? If you look at a forum, you will think all that happens is the vehicle brakes down. My dodge truck has had no problems in 50k miles, my polaris quads have been rock solid. My sporty has 19k miles, with zero problems. My point is, on forums, all we see are the 2% of people that are having problems, and the 10% of people that love the machines enough to get to know them, the 10% answer questions for and help the 2 %. The other 88% are out riding and having a good time.

I have owned and worked on 7 motorcycles and 3 quads, and i can say that the buell 1125 is the best. The engineering is top notch, and the build quality is excellent. Yes, there is a problem with the stator's on some. But you can get it rewound for $150 and be done worrying about it.
