Hi everyone, I'm "Rocketsprink"'s brother-in-law.

I have owned a few bikes in my time (Yamaha FZR600, Honda CBR900RR, Suzuki GSXR600, GSXR1000) and of course the Buell 1125R (purchased during the fire sale of '09)
I have to say, that I haven't had any problems with any of my previous Jap rockets. That being said, I was biased towards the imports. Rocketsprink has been riding Buell motorcycles for many many years, while I stuck with my imports. I have ridden many Buell sponsored track days and did like the 1125R, but the $12k price tag, amongst the cost for after market parts like a pipe etc... kept me from jumping on the Buell bandwagon.

When Harley announced the sell off of Buell, Rocketsprink let me know and we went to the HD dealer in the morning, I couldn't pass up the deal, hence I now own a red 2009 1125R.

Here's the deal, I've ridden in-line 4's all my life. After riding the 1125R, I no longer had interest in my GSXR1000. I sold it soon after and didn't look back. I was hooked on Buell.

As Rocketsprink mentioned in his post, I had a stator failure at 4,311 miles to the dealership. It was a beautiful day and I couldn't handle my bike being out for 2+ months. I was pissed!! I was hoping I was one of the few lucky ones with no problems, that day I realized this was not the case. While the bike was being diagnosed I feared the worst and entertained trading in on a Sportster Nightster. The salesman told me $4K, plus my trade in would get me a slightly used (600 mi) 2009 Nightster. I text'd a few guys I knew, they all said based on the way I ride, I wouldn't be happy with a Nightster. HD service came back and said they actually had a stator in stock, my bike would be ready a day later, I was surprised and lucky! With the problem in mind, and future common issues to deal with I mulled over trading it in, but the $4K wasn't attractive enough. I then started monitoring what both 1125's and Nightster's were going for on Ebay and determined our bikes currently aren't worth much at all, if anyone was even buying. That really sucks, so I've decided to keep the Buell on principle, because I love the bike. I figure the parts availability will have to come around, HD is stuck with a 7 year commitment from what I understand, plus the additional year warranty. It's just the thought of being without a bike for 2 months that gets me. I will hold HD to the 2 year warranty and rid the sh!t out of it.

Ride the sh!t out of it... that is!! I've already "avoided" 2 cops in the last month. Maybe someone will steal it? LOL

I'm not certain what the point of this thread is... It seems almost the same as the one that it's "Re"-ing..other than you're making a decision to keep the bike.

If you choose to wait 2 months for them to do the work that's really your choice..There are other options available to you, so if you don't think another couple of months riding is worth less than $500 of your money then that's your choice.

Now they have diagnosed the fault get the bike back, fix it and ride it, when the warranty parts come in return it to the dealer in the broken state, have them repair it and then either sell the bits you fixed yourself or keep them as spares..
