Well, i'm trying to figure out how much it will cost me to fix my bike when i get home. Here's the situation, I was 3 days from deploying and i was out for a nice ride. Ended up going through Oceanside and it was getting kinda busy. At one stop light i started going through the cars to get to the light so i can get in front of all the traffic. As i was going through, a chick in a car coming from the other direction was turning left in front of me and i had a HUGE suv blocking my view and by the time i saw the front end of that car poke out in front of the SUV i was about 10 feet away and going about 20mph. Hit the damn thing and went down.
After all the bull$hit with the fire department and cops they said i was good to go. I only have liability on my bike and i was put at fault because i was spliting traffic.
The damage: entire front end of bike is smashed up. Rim is ok, forks look ok, but going to put them on a lathe when i get home to make sure they are straight. Front fairing, fairing mount, entire headlight assembly is destroyed. When i turn the key all the lights come on, but wont even do anything when i try to start it (even after 2 days i tried starting it but still wont click or even do anything).

So, i'm wondering what am i going to need to replace that would get it running and make it look good again, and about how much it will cost.

I've been out here in Afghanistan for 7 months and every day i've been dreading coming home and having to spend a ton of money to fix it. And i still want to keep my warrenty valid so i'm probably going to have to have the dealership do all the repairs. I'm hoping that it wont put a HUGE dent in my pocket cause i want to pay the bike off too. Any help with the best options would really be great and take a huge load off my shoulder's knowing a little more.

so is this on the 12r(i know youve slid that down the pavement a PLENTY of times!) or the 1125?

i dont know where the bank angle is on the 1125's since ive never looked but i'll bet its in the front fairing, and if the fairing is all busted up and crooked, then the bank angle may be sitting wrong and not letting it start. possibility atleast.

It's the 1125, sold the 12r to a buddy of mine in a different unit. was gonna keep them both, but after i started riding the 1125 i noticed that i didnt miss the 12r AT ALL. So i sold it to him for a good price. I can't wait to get home to the bike and getting it fixed, i just dont want to pay for it.

I think the bank angle is in the left pod, but not sure. That side did slap the ground pretty good when i went down, so it could be it.

do you think it will cost more than $3k to fix everything?

How do you have just liability when the bike isnt paid off?

Also, the fairing with the support and headlights is just under $600 for the parts not including hardware

Check with Erik Buell Racing for used take-offs, you might find what you need there cheaper than what the dealer would charge.

i got the loan through my bank and they dont require full coverage as long as i'm making my payments, and as of right now, i've had the bike for less than a year, and have paid over half of it off. And i plan on paying it off before i get back to the states.

I saw some of the parts on Erik Buell Racing and probably gonna by them off there.

Personally, I'd fight it. Someone making a left has to yield the right of way and even if you are splitting lanes, you still have the right of way. Any junior level lawyer could fight that one easily.

Splitting lanes annoys some cops so they will almost always fault you if anything happens while you are splitting. That doesn't mean they are right.

The BAS is indeed under the LH Pod just above the ECM.

You could always streetfighter the bike if you wanted it back on the road a bit cheaper..

If you pay it off, part it out and that will put you in close range to another one. I saw the front drive belt pulley at Erik Buell Racing as a take off for almost $500.00 and they are $1,000 new!

Watch E-bay and do the math on some of these things.
The hoarding going on with the 1125's is amazing.

man i'd be plucking bits off of ebay daily. especially with that nice tax-free kicker you are getting. dont be afraid of some of the scuffed up plastics -as long as they are cracked they can be resuscitated. pick up a fairing stay from eriks racing shop before they are all gone.

if it isnt the ecm or the BAS my bet is that the harness going into the ignition switch might have gotten smashed . good luck man.

Another note (hopefully less useless than my last one): your warranty is good no matter who does the work. You just need to keep records and receipts. This part is federal law so you shouldn't even have to sweat it and you can avoid that insane service rate.

So, keep your head clear. Don't worry about the bike - it ain't that big of a problem. You need to take care of yourself.
