Just pulled the trigger on the Barker exhaust mostly due to price and performance for that price. Now I'm taking suggestions from those that know more about the fuel maps than I do as to whether or not I should go with the E-B-R Barker ECM or the Fuelsolutions map? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I just put a Barker's on mine with the E-B-R generic pump gas ECM and it runs great. It's even smoother than it was with the stock muffler. I have a little popping during trailing throttle, but I think I have a small leak at the header connection. You might want to get some ear plugs though. It's loud!

Ebr all the way!!!!! They tuned my race 2008 1125r drag bike and my 09 1125r daily driver. Both run great!!!! Nobody knows that bike better that Ebr. I've been to other good experienced dyno operators and Ebr always had the best tune for all out race or street performance.

You can't go wrong with either option. The only big difference is that with the Erik Buell Racing setup, you get an actual ECM to bolt on. That can be handy in the future should you need to troubleshoot, and if you bring you bike to a dealer for service you can easily swap it out so they don't accidentally re-flash and overwrite it.

I've not used the fuel solutions product, but I know Dave L personally and he's a top notch guy who knows his stuff.

I decided to use the ebr ECM with my barkers exhaust for it's simple plug and play install, the fact that I'd still have the stock ECM on hand if needed and I wanted to support ebr and their efforts. I ran the barkers with the stock ECM for about a week, and the difference is night and day.

Basically, I don't think you can go wrong either way, just have to decide what method of achieving the same goal is best for you.

Go with the Eric Buell Racing-Barker ECM. I installed mine with the stock exhaust still on and went for a ride. WOW! What a difference. At idle, the sound was more like a twin. That lean condition about 4200 RPM was gone and it pulled quite a bit harder at 5000. With the Barker slip-on , it's even better. Now it sounds fantastic and revs even easier. For the price of their "plug and play" ECM, you can't go wrong.

cannot say any thing about Erik Buell Racing maps as not tryed them but have run twinmotorcycles maps for over 2 years had good results and no problems and Dris lives in that dyno room .I think you cannot go wrong with either

Running E B R ECM with Barker,(NICE!) Can't speak for the other.
But nice to have a stock ECM for service or warranty , is what decided it for me. Oh and plus, if you can't trust E B R, what are you doing here?

I swapped the E-B-R ECM back in Friday after riding with stock unit for a week. I was out buzzing around (keep the RPM's at or near 4000) tonight comparing the ECM's; Erik Buell Racing and stock, the Erik Buell Racing is much more forgiving on up and down shifts. To get any decel w/ Erik Buell Racing you have to downshift at least 2 gears. Stock? close the throttle and a bit decel is all yours.

How does the FS behave in this respect?

Danny Try it.. And tell us what your experience is here... That is much better then I tell you about my own product.

And you drove the Erik Buell Racing and stock on your bike so you know the difference the best

I make you also a not happy money back guarentee.

Both maps are probably a big improvement over stock. The thing is tha $250 to e b r gets you the map on an ECM that you can remove at will (like when taking the bike in for warranty service) or even sell separately if you get rid of the bike. The Fuelsolutions tune is $25 less but once it's installed, you can't remove it without paying Fuelsolutions, and you can't sell the tune separately if you part ways with your bike. In my opinion, it's worth the extra $25 for the e b r ECM to have those freedoms. Now if the Fuelsolutions tune was a lot cheaper than the e b r ECM, or if it actually came on an ECM instead of as a download over the Internet, it might be a different story.

I heard back from Erik Buell Racing this morning after leaving them a voice message yesterday. They answered my tech questions about their ECM for the Barker and how it affects engine braking and the stator, and shipped my ECM out today. Very good service. -Tutt

What does the Erik Buell Racing ECM do to the stator?

Rombi, that is why I called them!!!

As per my conversation with them:

All the newer Erik Buell Racing ECMs have the "stator control" feature of the HD repair, are both 49 state and CA state compliant with that repair, and have the 1400 rpm idle instead of the the 1700 "no engine breaking" idle.

What about the Fuel Solutions upgrade? We would like to know how it also affects the stator control and idle capability.

What if an insurance adjuster finds an ECM on your trashed bike with "Race Use Only" printed across the top of it? Might it have implications for a claim?

This has made me hesitant about putting an Erik Buell Racing ECM in a streetbike, and you might scoff at Erik Buell Racing's own admonition (or my quoting of it here): "Use of this ECM is not intended for vehicles operated on the road..." but the fact is if it becomes a legal issue in a worst-case scenario, the rider may not have a leg to stand on.

One reason to consider Easy's solution... it's more stealthy.

Tutt,

All the latest dealer flashes in the world have the new "stator control" feature and they idle at 1500 rpm

Becuase we use the latest flash since 2009, we and other people who had the latest flash have this feature already.

It is nothing special, only there are a lot of people who ride with a much older ecm flash who don't have it becuase it cam out with the latest flash of HD.

Thanks Easy. My 09 bike was given the latest flash when they installed the harness but maybe it was not necessary, I don't know. -Tutt

Thanks one and all for your comments and suggestions.

Put the Barker on today without the ECM and boy just that made a difference. Should get the ECM along with the K&N this week. Can't wait to put them in.

Thanks again for the information.

Finished putting in E B R ECM and a quick track test with the new Barker and all I can say is what a difference a day makes! Can't wait to get this baby on the track for longer than 40 minutes this weekend. The top end is very nice. Not that I ever got there. Bravo... Is it me or is the handling better as well?

BTW, went with the E B R ECM as it gives me two ecm's vice one. Would love to give the Fuel Solutions Map a go and still may before it's all over.

Thanks again for the invaluable information I received from this site and it's world class members.

Well, it does sort of seem that way doesn't it? Its because the low end engine response, ie from 3000 rpm up, works so much smoother than stock (no "herky jerky") and because there is less engine braking.

The combination of these features makes the bike so much easier to ride smoothly! You find yourself gracefully moving through turns because the throttle is not so darn sensitive!

Kudos to Erik Buell Racing and Tim Barker for making such fine products.

Hoping my velocity stacks coming from Twin Motorcycles only add to the combination!

pariah,
Does your insurance adjuster show up at the scene and pull off the pods? Tow it home and swap the ecms before the insurance adjuster shows up, or if you are that worried, just paint over the "race only".

Dktech, being a fellow engineer, you realize that it is possible for the insurance adjuster to do a memory dump of my ECM and then I'm screwed, huh?! ; )

I agree, it would have to be one thorough adjuster. Ripping off the pods I wouldn't put past them, though, just something to think about... painting might look suspicious, so erasing (maybe with nail polish remover?) will do the trick much better.

Call me paranoid... no wait, call me Pariah-noid...
