I called the dealer yesterday about checking my valves. They said it would be 6 hours of labor which works out to $495. I didn't think that was too bad. I would love to save the money and do it myself but I know my limits and it stops with going inside the motor. I think it would be fun to the point were you open the motor and then the fun stops there.
My bike only has 6200 miles on it but it sees 5-6 track days a year so I thought I would check them early to be safe. I do normally hit the limiter 2-3 times a track day. But I have been really trying to avoid it if possible. |

D-Adams, Did you check your clearances without tilting the motor? That's what it looks like in the pictures. |

No, it's lowered down some. Next time, I'll pull the frame and front end off. I need to build a jig to support the engine to do it, but it will be a little easier to do the valve adjustment with the engine exposed. There's no way to pull the front valve cover off without either tilting the motor down or removing the frame. |

White79bu, I believe that job is supposed to take 4 hours not 6. I'd check with another dealer even if you don't take it there just to make sure you are getting the right price. |

Thanks ratsmc. Service guy told me it would be between 6-8hrs. But they would only charge me 6 probably. He told me they where guessing because the couldn't find any info on their computer. I tried to call another dealer but they where closed. I will call again Monday |

I got an idea tonight!
The rear valve cover is exposed enough to check the valves by simply removing the airbox and seat. I only have 2600 miles on my bike, and I am going to check the valves in the rear cylinder, and if they are in spec, then i imagine that the front ones are ok, if the rears are out of spec, then the front will probably be to. Then i will check the fronts closer to 12k miles. |

Dk you can not get the rear cam cover off without rotating the motor forward & down as the the rear shock mount & bolt dont allow enough clearance for removal. |
