Pro Italia is putting on a "Rebuild (Angeles) Crest" benefit ride this Sunday, the 22nd.

And for those that for some strange reason don't really care about "the Crest"....Erik Buell hisself will be playing in a madeup band at Newcomb's Ranch (along with a few other "name" players.

Unfortunatly, I'll be in a plane heading out of town again about that same time...

For any that may go...let us know how it goes.

Mike

An assortment of Buellers will be at the Circle K ( 138 and the 15) at 11 am for the ride to Newcomb's.

I'm going to try. How big is the place they're playing? Is it ridiculous for me to hope I might actually get to shake his hand/have him autograph my bike?

Marco:

Newcomb's ranch will have plenty of parking for all. See http://www.newcombsranch.com/

I'd be willing to bet if you're there, you'll meet Erik, and I'm sure he'd sign your bike.

Damn, I was trying to talk myself out of it --- that's a damn long ride for me --- but I can't resist. What's the best way to get to the meetup point from Riverside? I'm close to the 91, 60, 10, and 15 freeways . . .

Marco:

If you're trying to keep it short, you might want to ride up with the Southern California Area Buellers (SCAB) instead of our club. They'll meet up at the Circle K in Phelan at the intersection of 15 and 138 around 10:45-11. They're going up the back way.

Super good group. Living in Riverside, you might consider joining them - http://www.meetup.com/Southern-California-Area-Bue llers-SCAB/

Marco,
Definitely meet up with the SCAB guys at 15/138 and you will enjoy a great group. I rode the exact same pavement with them 7 weeks ago and they were fast, safe, and very mellow. Highly recommended...

Just be STRONGLY ADVISED that this is a highly publicized event, the Angeles Crest Hwy is a HUGE revenue generator because it is a DOUBLE FINE ZONE.

A traffic stop for speeding, reckless, double yellow and illegal lane change will cost you over $2000.

Those of us going up the hill from the North are planning on taking it easy since enforcement will be dramatically stepped up with almost 4 times the normal sportbike traffic. Pro Italia has kept the official list limited to 250 riders - but that doesn't count the rest of us just riding up to see Erik and grab a bite.

IF you will be riding at a brisk pace, pay attention to the oncoming riders warning signals.

We're riding up tonight after work and are going to scope it out a bit more

Watch out for squidly behavior as you get closer to Newcomb's. I guarantee that this weekend, there will be AT LEAST one helo medevac.

Thanks guys.

SoCalBuellriders: suppose for a moment I didn't care about the length of the ride (not exactly true, but suppose). Which ride is more enjoyable once you get to ACH?

DOUBLE FINE ZONE.

How in the hell can they get away with that? I have seen double fine zones in construction areas, but on a normal stretch of highway? Because there are lots of bikes? Seems like bike persecution once again.}

Marco:
Just rode that whole stretch - Big Tujunga, Angeles Forest Hwy North to Palmdale, back down to Upper Big Tujunga, East on Angeles Crest, through Wrightwood to 138 and across 15 into the San Berdoo Mountains, through Crestline toward Big Bear.

Best part? Angeles Crest from Newcomb's to Wrightwood. Of course, that was partly because it was Sunday late afternoon and all the squidly types were long gone. Managed to see the CHP before he saw me, and got it hauled down to a respectful pace.

AC will have less traffic, and is a nicer piece of road, IMO.

Be careful out there, folks!
