I've suddenly developed a high voltage issue with the '09 CR. On starting, once warmed up, I got a High Voltage warning. I shut it off, and saw 16.1 V!!! After a couple restarts, it want back to normal operation. I'm guessing I ran for a little bit with the warning and didn't notice, but I did burn out the headlight! I'm glad I didn't have the high beam on. It has done it again twice. Restart seems to temporarily cure it. Any Ideas what's going on?

The bulb is available at any good auto store, fortunately. The HD dealer said they had never had that part in stock.

I would double check how tight the battery connections are. I would also check the ground cable at the frame.

Sounds like a bad regulator/rectifier to me.

Your regulator is fried and I wouldn't replace it with the stock one. I've ridden with the regulator mentioned in the above thread for a few hundred miles and have had absolutely no charging issues.

Yea, the message was system voltage. I'll be looking at the voltage regulator...

Bike is at the Allen Tx Dealer. We'll see what they say. I showed the Tech 14.4 V on a just started (but warm enough) motor.

Had the same problem with my 09' R.. took it into the dealer and they said it was because the harness recall hadn't been done, took it in at 1PM they did the harness recall, fixed the heat shield on my lower fairings, and re-flashed the ecm and had it back to me at 9AM the next morning... haven't had any problems since and it sit's at 13.7 while riding and goes down as low as 13.1V while sitting at a light with the high-beams on and both fans running.

I had the rewire bit done a couple months ago. 14.4 isn't a problem. 16.1 is, as is the voltage warning. No word yet from the dealer.

well mine is going back in tmrw, dammit, been rollin great at 14.1-14.4 for the last few weeks then today all of a sudden its dropping to low-mid 12's at every stop, but that is not acceptable to me, i ride far, and often, i want peace of mind, not to have to stare at my voltage display. I might take that damn harness off myself.

The bike is now at the Allen Tx dealer, waiting on a new Voltage regulator. I'm assuming it's covered by a warranty. Good thing is, I have a couple of other bikes...
