With the addition of the CaliCan my '09 CR is no longer dripping fuel on the floor but, at the end of a long hot ride, it still seriously stinks up the garage. I recall a prior post (that I can't now find) where someone having this problem and they determined they had a faulty CaliCan. You guys with the the CaliCan installed, do you smell fuel after a long hot ride or is it just me? What are the odds if I replace my CaliCan that it'll be fixed? Thanks. | ||

Ur can it probably fine. Yes there still will be a smell..sometimes better sometimes worse. | ||

I have about 2500 miles on my cali can and NO issues. Check to see that everything is hooked up. | ||

Ambient temps have alot to do with the amount of smell. | ||

Mine smells on a hot day. It always has, from day one, and I've had the bike for 2 years now. The hotter the day, the stronger the smell. | ||

I have no can, but a box fan works well... I leave it on for a few minutes after a ride with the garage door open. Thereafter, no smell... | ||

I still have a bit of smell, especially on really hot days, even after the install. But it's not even close to the same league as it was pre-install. And I don't miss that puddle each time I stop either! Mike | ||

Not a lot on even the hottest days. I'm guessing a bit (or a lot!) here but if you had a bad can, hoses or connections I think they'd be blow'en fumes after a real hot ride. Like maybe out the air inlet hole in the calican on the opposite side from the tube fittings. Popping the seat after a hard ride might show the problem. Also fumes going to the intake might be finding a way out the airbox if the box is modded, or the seals are not set good or that little foam filter and breather tube isn't set correctly into the bottom of the air can. | ||

I ordered the Cali can but haven't installed it yet. Strangely, I haven't noticed any gas smell to speak of over the last couple of weeks and it's been in the mid-90s for the most part. However, most of rides have been relatively short (5 miles or less) with little time stopped, so I haven't had too much opportunity for the frame to get hot and make the fuel vapors become noticeable. The last time it was really stinky was when the last two miles of my ride home were at slow speeds (30mph or less). | ||

Just by looking at the canister itself, it's not hard to imagine some smell is going to escape from that open port. I've had the same thing happen on cars. But with the can, I can pull into the garage on even the hottest of days and the wife and kids might mention smelling the bike if they walk through the garage. It used to be my daughter in the bedroom overhead saying the smell was making her feel sick to her stomach. That was beyond reasonable to me, hence H-D paying to fix it. Mike | ||

My bike just made a liar out of me. It's about 95F now. I rode to a client 25 miles away and made the return trip about an hour later. After 5 miles, I stopped for gas and filled up to just below the bottom of the filler neck. Twenty miles later, at my office, the bike left drops while I was parking it and then a puddle after parking. Guess I won't be being lazy with the canister install after all. | ||

The dealer told me, and I have it in writing that HD will not cover the can install because if you can smell and see fuel than the vent system is working as it should. And the dealer went on to say that the person who okayed the mod in the past was fired. Sounds like BS to me. | ||

I'm out in the high dessert of SoCal and it has been regularly over 100F the last couple months. With the stock cali-can i still get a gas smell but nothing as strong as what i've read about on here. I can still pull right into the garage, shut the bike off, and close the doors and when i come back later the smell isn't overpowering. | ||

I really doubt that the people (not just a single person) that authorized the addition/installation was fired. Even the poorest run companies don't fire people for improving customer satisfaction for $70! Speaking of the dealer, mine's very good. But they still couldn't get the authorization. When I called H-D myself, it was no problem. I could have put it on myself, but it's the principle. Mike | ||

its kinda funny all of you added that can to your bike... i spent like a month plotting on how i was going to DE-california-ize my bike. i still have the smog junk in my storage shed, including the stock muffler. i couldnt WAIT to get that mini catalyst/muffler off my bike!! | ||

PB, I hear you. This is the first time I can recall adding a CA-spec anything to a vehicle. I lived in San Francisco for nearly 14 years, and did everything I reasonably could to modify vehicles and still pass smog and get my registration renewed. As much as I might like smelling fuel, the rest of the family was less than impressed when it permeates multiple levels of the house. Yes honey, I'll fix it! | ||

I have it and it wouldnt be in my garage if it wasnt installed. My kids bedrooms are over the garage Mine didnt drip fuel it sprayed it. From spraying gas to a faint smell when very hot |
