Hopefully a quick and easy question.....

My buddy and I each got an ECM for our bikes (09 125R and CR both with FMF pipes) went to install them today and neither bike will run with them installed. To install we removed the pod cover and swapped the units).

On the R it will sit and idle but touch the throttle and it dies immediately no revs at all (did the TPS reset and no change). On the CR it is about the same but with a really rough idle.

Any thoughts or ideas? did we miss a step? These are both Canadian models as well......

I'll be sending an email to E B R as well but wanted to check here too.....

If you got Canadian ECM's (you did tell them when you ordered, right?), you should be fine.

Put the stockers back in, and get the engine HOT.

Swap computers, THEN do the TPS (while it's HOT). Should work much better that way.

I installed mine and I didn't do a TPS reset, just swapped, started and have been riding since. So I think it's not a TPS issue, and my bike was cold when I did it. Can't help on the trouble shooting but thought I'd share how mine went. Good luck, I'm sure Erik Buell Racing will have the answer, they've been great in my exp.

Very strange. I saw via UPS tracking that my ECM was dropped off at my door. Went home for work on my lunch hour ... swapped ECM's ... started it up and rode back to work with no issues. Wonder if they sent you the wrong ECM's ...

My bike was cold too (wouldn't have thought to do it any other way), and no TPS reset needed. Swapped it, fired it up ... Went nuts ; )

Yesterday installed race ECM on stock '08 R, did a TPS reset and fell in love all over again for the first time.
Your results seem the exception. I an interested in your resolution.

Did you cut off the battery first? ECM installation requires taking off the power.

Dcmortalcoil, you do not need to disconnect the battery, you do need to do the TPS reset.

If you go into diag mode after fitting the Erik Buell Racing ECM you should find that the TPS reading at WOT wont be reading 100%, do the TPS reset and all should be fine, but obviously check the TPS reading after to make sure it worked, mine took 3 attemps, must of been doing it slightly wrong !

Also make a note of all the error codes, after 50 starts they will go but its always worth checking.

You need to disconnect either the BAS or the sidestand connector block depending on what you specified to Erik Buell Racing. Probably the BAS if USA or Canada.

Trafford what happens if you dont disconnect the BAS ? i asked to keep the side stand switch. Have not yet been able to ride the bike yet as the swing arm is still at the polishers. All i have done is TPS reset, not even started the bike yet.

I can only speak to my own emails and experiences having fitted the E B R pump gas/stock exhaust ECM about a month back.

I was told that a TPS reset was not necessary, and that turned out to be accurate. Diag was exactly ( 2 % - 100 %) as before.

I was also told to disconnect the battery, which I would have done even if told it wasn't needed. (That pesky electronics degree of mine always wins out!)

I was also told that the SS and BAS switches weren't figured in, just leave things alone. Same with the O2's ... Leave them connected.

I'm at 570 miles now - Smiling like an idiot the whole time. Interested to find out what ends up being the case for Gopher.

I had the same problem sent it back and they said they could find nothing wrong. I was doing the TPS wrong as per some well meaning misinformation going around on the web. When I did it the right way it worked fine. Now the right way to do a TPS reset can be found in the Folder at lower part of main screen titled "New 1125R/CR Owner Information" and then the thread called "TPS reset procedure". From that post;

1. Turn on the key.
2. Set the kill switch to the run position.
3. Don't start the engine. Rotate the throttle from fully closed (gently held closed) to fully
open (gently held open), and then back again to closed (gently held closed).
4. Repeat 3 times. Hold at each stop (fully open, fully closed) for 1 full second.
5. Turn the key off and back on.
6. If you connect to Directlink, a fully closed throttle should indicate between 3.7 to 4.2 degrees. If it
doesn't, repeat the above steps.

If I do not disconnect the sidestand connector block (in Europe) the bike will start and idle and rev in neutral.....but try to ride.... and as soon as you change gear the engine cuts for a millisecond. So riding is impossible. If Erik Buell Racing have changed things since earlier in the year thats great for new buyers. This feature (BAS in U.S.) was to allow for fitting a quick shifter using the wiring from either the BAS or sidestand wiring. Its a nice simple feature for racers.

Trafford, I can't speak for E B R, but the messages I received basically said the 'out of the box' unit had been redone to get around all the BAS, SS, O2, idle speed, etc stuff. For someone (a racer perhaps) that needed a tweak or two, they were happy to program it that way ... But the off the shelf variety was going to hit 80-90% of the need for average customers.

My experience with the EB ECM has been like gopher's. Whenever I swap chips, bike starts and idles fine, but will quit if you blip the throttle. I always have to do a quick TPS reset - no problem, all is good. (I have an '08)

Problem solved, I took the bike for a ride with the stock ECM in and resigned myself to the fact that my Sunday ride would not be with the new one........

I decided to give it another try so back in it went (didn't disconnect the battery or the BAS or the sidestand switch). I did another TPS reset and it started right up and has worked flawlessly since......

And a thumbs up to E B R for responding to my email on the 4th at 8:00am very impressive!

I assume that you disconnected the battery when swapping ECMs - may have an issue.
I do this when changing ECMs and have never had a problem - Good Luck

i installed mine without disconnecting the battery.
It was perfect after a tps reset (cold engine).
It's still perfect.

Oh, one thing though: I did dip it quickly in sacramental wine, you know, just in case.
So maybe that was it?
