I am actually quite fond of the appearance of the stock can. I am considering an aftermarket pipe to cut weight and increase the DB and HP. But I don't want obnoxious loud, like an open header SBC. I want appealing loud, like a side piped BBC. And I really don't want to have to repack my exhaust. I have heard some Ducs that could only be described as audible sex, and I want this sound. I saw some threads on modified stock cans and was curious to get a consensus on the various results people have experienced.

Any slip-on muffler available in the aftermarket is definitely an improvement in sound over the stock exhaust. I run the HMF Racing muffler myself. My opinion is as long as it's a muffler it's not going to be obnoxiously loud. If you don't mind spending some bucks, I guess there is what they call a "Drummer" muffler available for the 1125R.

Stock modified.

BBC or a Ducati "audible sex" but it's on a Buell. : )

Then there's "more hp"

Did you modify it or have someone else modify it?

Your opinion would be wrong.

Every single aftermarket muffler (aside from modified stock mufflers) I've heard are VERY loud, and they all pretty much sound the same. Slight differences, but not much.

I have a Drummer. I had to make a baffle for it - I was embarassed to ride it the way it came.

I'm thinking I'll go for one of the MT-1s from D_Adams - selling the Drummer should fund it.

Does the MT-1 require a different ECM to run well?

I recommend an Erik Buell Racing ECM regardless of what exhaust you are using, including stock.

Hearing that rt4 exhaustis frickin music to my ears. I jusy bought an 08 1125r and would love to have it make noise like the one in the vid. I have seen Jardine rt-5 exhaust listed, but not rt4. Does the rt 5 sound similiar? Do I "have" to upgrade the ECM? If the rt5 doesnt sound like the 4, where can I get the 4? Damn that thing sounded NICE!

What I make and what the Jardine rt5 is are two completely different things and are in no way associated with each other. Two completely different companies. What you see in the videos above are either modified or made by me, they're hand fabricated.

Please keep in mind, I'm just one guy doing this and I have a pretty good backlog of pipes to build now. If you do order one, it will be a little while before it gets built. Just a guess, I'm about 6 weeks behind, maybe 7.
Forgot to add, I HIGHLY recommend the Erik Buell Racing race ECM to get the most out of any aftermarket pipe, regardless of who made it.

They're all pretty close in tone, but the RT-3 is pretty loud.

There are more on YouTube, search for keda rt-3 and you should see several.

Dean, email sent regarding the the MT-1.
do we need to send out stock pipes in for modification, or do you have some already to modify?

So many interesting options. I really like the look of the Type 4. But it is once again clear to me that I need to ride with some bikes that have the different systems installed to really understand how they sound. I don't think a video clip is sufficient to decide by. Thanks for all the info.

I search out and listen to any and all clips I can find on YT that feature aftermarket exhausts for the 1125r and nothing sounds quite like American Thunder...except the RT-4. If loud doesn't bother you the RT-4 will make your 1125 sound like God and EB intended: bad ass.

For mellow, again Dean wins the prize with his original can the RT-1. It's got a sound very much like the race can from Buell for the X-1. A nice bassy idle with a stock car like rip up the RPM range. That would be my choice.

The HMF I ran is almost embarassingly loud. The sound of the Jardine aggravates me. The FMF is a little different but still has a high pitched kazoo type of sound I dislike. The Remus, the ridiculously priced Termignoni and Free Spirits and HPE systems sound pretty good, but I don't have $1500 to spend on eye-tallion ear-plumbing : D The Barker might be the quietest of the bunch and if you like the way it sounds might be a good all-rounder. It's got a distinctive sound but not one I am crazy about. The TorqueHammer seems to be a solid design but it's just too weird looking for me. Spend a day or week or month searching YT and see what you can tolerate in terms of sound.
