So any of you guys in Tucson AZ. Any pointer about how the 1125R will handle the heat?

as long as your moving, itll be fine...if traffic (which will happen in tucson) you will get it in the 220*F probably. Also in tucson you HAVE to be VERY careful of the potholes, i kid you not that they have potholes that WILL make you crash if your not careful, or bend a wheel, or just hurt your @$$. Also ALMOST no one in AZ knows how to drive so you have to be on the offensive, ALL THE TIME...people never look for bikes.

But Tucson is home of my favorite road in AZ...MOUNT LEMMON, you HAVE to go up it, 25miles of AWESOME mountain twisties!! But look out for cops...i got my FIRST ticket there lol...hence why i have a radar detector on my R now LOL.

How long you gonna be there? I might have to swing down and go for a ride : )

Most likely, very badly.

If you keep moving, it's just uncomfortably hot.

If you hit traffic in the heat, your frame will get hot enough to burn you (see another thread), and to boil your fuel. You may also piss out coolant if you shut down while hot. And you'll be venting fuel vapors for a rather long period after shutdown.

... get a good set of riding pants if you don't have them. You'll want them, as they protect your legs from the bike. The asphalt protection is a minor side benefit. Jeans don't cut it on a 1125 in the heat.

You guys need to get out of town more often, and explore HWY191 in eastern Arizona!
Mt Lemmon may be the cats meow for a short afternoon ride, but come on, ya gotta get out of town to do some real riding!
HWY191 has 90 miles of wild curves that will keep you busy for 3 hours...

Tucson is nice and cool so you should be okay.

I just went out in 113F today in Phoenix. It was unpleasant but mostly only sitting at lights.

The bike didn't fair to badly but I tried not to sit too long. Of course, in this heat, the rider is more likely to expire than the motor.

Seriously though, no one in Arizona has any idea how to drive and they have no awareness of bikes so you have to expect them to try to take you out.

BTW, are you moving here? IF so, why the hell would you do that?

All thanks for the input so far. concerning your questions and comments.

I'll be there in Oct 2011. How long... at least three years.

MT Lemon, it keeps coming up. It will be one of the first places I hit. I'll have to go with a buddy and send him ahead as my "rider radar." It worked last weekend. The Croatian cops pulled him and check his papers because he was 1st. Left the rest of us alone. No ticket so it was all cool. Note taken on HWY191.

Riding plants. I just broke in my new set of Fildsheer Black Leather 2.0 Sport pants. I guess I won't be wearing them in AZ. Will I?

No planes for me dude. I was a Weapons troop (2W1), but now I'm an office monkey. Air conditioning ALL THE WAY!
But man, how I miss the mentality of the flightline.
Ratsmc, how do you tires hold up on the hot roads?

I haven't noticed any real problems with my tires in the heat. Of course, I don't really push them hard when it is so hot because the heat is already draining me.

If you are getting here in October, things will have started to cool down and that is the start of the riding season. Tucson actually gets damn cold. I go down there every couple of weeks and one time had to stop and buy some warmer clothes in order to be able to ride back to PHX.

i get about 10k miles out of my tires and thats with VERY aggresive riding lol.

Also Tucson does get mighty cold in the winter. I like to sum up tucson as Colder than Phoenix and Warmer than Flagstaff...its not that bad really...but the streets are HORRIBLE and most are only 2 lanes and get VERY congested with traffic...trust me also that you WILL be using your riding pants...especially on Mt. Lemmon...oh and on top theres a LITTLE town called Summerhaven and its about 20*F cooler than at the bottom of the mountain....GREAT stress relief!!

Interesting with the cold stuff... reminds me of Baghdad. Great new about the pants. I would have hated for them to be hanging the the closet. I do think I'll be looking for a second pair though... something mesh.

Will I be getting tickets for splitting lanes at the traffic lights? I F*K'in hope not.

Afans..im sorry to report that YES you will get a ticket IF a cop see's you..however if he does not, then NO you will NOT get a ticket LOL

this is why i have a radar detector on my bike ; )

Jake

Honestly one of the only places its legal to split lanes in Cali...not sure about other states, but in AZ it is illegal to :/ ....but as my daddy always told me..."its only illegal IF you get caught" ; ) muahaha

Yeah. Lanesplitting is illegal here. Coming from California where it is, I feel extremely vulnerable in ways that I never did out there.

The other problem is that drivers here are so bad and so angry that splitting lanes will be a hazard. I would not be surprised if a cager intentionally took a rider out if they were splitting.

Looks like I might be getting into a fight. I just want to ride and "live & let be" out there. But when others are trying to stop me I don't deal with it well.

Damn! Over here you can get away with anything as long as you don't crash. I will miss the countries over here. The big reason we get away with so much, it that there are so few cops. IT IS AWESOME! And the "its only illegal if you get caught" is so true!
