I was wondering how some of you are lowering your idle and how far have you/can you go. I have an Erik Buell Racing ecm with a lowered idle but I was hoping for a little lower. It currently idles around 1400. Stock ecm was around 1600. I was kinda hoping for 1000-1200rpm. Im looking to quiet a little of the exhaust bark at the stoplights. I realize the charging system wont work so well but I dont sit at a lot of stoplights. I drive through a high end community a lot and I would like to be a little less offensive.

When I requested how low I could get mine set, they responded with 1,400 RPM being the lowest idle possible.

Any lower and you run the risk of it not charging at idle.

Per anony, idling below 1,400 is not good for the engine. The mill uses many lightweight, low inertia parts. Setting the idle too low, tends to shake the $hit out of them.

Well that clears that up. I guess I will look into making some sort of quiet insert instead. Thanks guys.

Mine idles down about 1300 with the stock ECM and also with the E B R ECM. Guess I got lucky 'cause that seems pretty good sound-wise and charging system-wise, although I do occasionally notice the voltage dropping slightly if I idle excessively. Really, unless you are cracking the throttle, the sound difference should be very slight between 1400 and 1200. Even my bikes with 100db exhausts are drowned out at idle by a semi.

I asked about the idle speed myself when ordering mine from E B R, and they said they come off the shelf (pump gas, stock version) at 1,400 RPMs and that's where they should be left. They would make it lower if I asked, but did warn about potential problems; charging and otherwise. I figured they knew best, so I went with the 1,400. Just right!!
