I never had the cali can installed on my 08r but the dealer did a "recall" with regards to the routing of the hose to the rear of the bike. They adapted a smaller diameter hose (plastic like and pre curved) that plugged into the original hose and terminated behind the seat and exited out on the left side between the under tail and the mounts for the passenger pegs. Just like the old dripping tank boil (on my 08) gas problem and smelling up the garage, now it just pissed all over my left side swing arm. Pretty annoying to say the least.

Then I came up with my own solution! I just found one of those cheap clear gas filters found at Auto Zone that unscrew (so you can change out the filter) and I removed the whole filter material. I went down to my local aquarium dealer and bought a small bag of filter charcoal and poured it into the filter until it was full and then screwed it back together. Then I installed it just below the air box and zip tied it to the large cable, connector and ran a short hose section to the (plastic like) preformed section the dealer installed which still exits on the left side were my passenger foot pegs bolted to the frame. (I removed the foot pegs)
Never had another drip or smell in the garage. Cheap, easy and very cool. The gas drip must get absorbed by the charcoal and eventually evaporate when the bike is not run. I worked for me. Pictures anyone?

Then I finished up were the dealer ended with regards to insulating the entire frame / gas tank surface area, which really cut down on the heat related problem of the dreaded gas boil. No boil now! Was going to also wrap the headers, but never got around to it.

My only concern with this is how you have the charcoal... when the bike is hot and the gas is pushed out of the tank into your new filter system all is well... but when it cools it will pull fuel/vapor and possibly charcoal into the tank if you didn't route your hoses properly. Any pics of your set up?

If it works ... But for me, the Cali Can was a no-brainer. The dealer came to my house to get the bike, took it 80 miles to their shop, did all the work for free, washed it and brought it back to my house. That's my kind of mod!

Extreme 6669, I thought about you comment about it sucking back into the tank too and since I run the original hose along the recess located on top of the air box lid, it is long and flows way down hill, I didn't think it presented a problem and I purchased the laboratory grade of charcoal which will not break down with the gas. Also, the filter nozzles will not allow a backwash of charcoal to ever release from the filter, I made sure of this by inserting two filters (that's like the filters you buy at the local head shop, think getting high) at each (inside) end of the the filter. The filters fit like they were made for the application, no trimming needed.

Plus, the amount of my fuel that pissed out was never more than the filter can handle. Like I said, easy, cool looking and it works. I will take a few pic tonight and post.

I looked at that Cali can set up and said to myself, that sucks, won't it make it difficult for the bike to re-start. And I just don't like that whole set up.
