Does anyone know what the current rebates are on the buells. I was going to buy a 09 Lighting for the misses(really just to get her off the back of my 1125) but it seemed like they almost wanted sticker price for it.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The rebates don't matter, its supply and demand. There are next to no new bikes left, so anything you find will be at or near MSRP.

Not new, it's been sold/titled to you, and has 300+ miles on it.

Title makes it "used".

Title date starts the warranty...but since it's a COV (Company Owned Vehicle), the warranty started when the put it into the demo fleet, not when you bought it.

And please....STOP YELLING. : )

100% INCORRECT RATBUELL

Gman - actually...NOT 100% incorrect.

COV warranties DO start when the bike is put in-fleet.

That's not to say they can't extend it for a buyer at time of purchase if they want / are able to.

The giveaway is your "in-service" date. If you doubt, go to a dealer and have them run the VIN under H-Dnet, in the "vehicle information" screen. It will show the in-service date (start of the warranty), and the warranty expiration date. My guess is, on your bike, there's more than a 2 year spread between in-service and warranty expiration.

Ratbuell used to work for a dealer, he sold them.

Are you sure your bike was a CVO? Just because its a demo dosen't mean its a CVO. Dealer owned demos usually come with a full 2 year warranty.

COV, Froggy.

CVO is a chrome couch with a 110 and sparkly paint : )

COV - Company Owned Vehicle (demo)

CVO - Custom Vehicle Operations (Screamin' Eagle bike)

My 2010 COV came with the full 2 year warranty. My dealer said specifically ALL COV bikes had their full warranty from date of purchase.

That is incorrect, unless the dealer provided that warranty.

Ratbuell is . . in fact . . dead on accurate.

The COV (company owned vehicle) program encompasses LOTS of bikes from the ones I used to ride all the time, to photo bikes that were used for brochures, the "tech pubs" bikes that were used to be torn apart and reassembled to do Service Manual photos and procedures, the DM and SOAR bikes, executive bikes, the bike sent for emissions and acoustic testing and a host of others. I still have my Excel spreadsheets of all the various iterations that preceded the intro of the S1WL in 1998 and we built a ton of bikes for stuff like ROC and the HD 95th "law enforcement" bikes.

Some COVs are dandy and a good buy . . . others have been beat in ways you can't imagine.

Harley-Davidson can do a warranty (basically a 3 party contract) on anything they want. They may do it on some COVs but that would be the exception. The COV auction is generally the epitome of "as is, where is".

One of my funniest stories involves a guy who bought a "low mileage" COV and wrote me to ask about the break in procedure.

I looked up what the bike had been used for (it varied significantly with the story his dealer had provided him) and assured him that there was no need to "break in" the motor.

And that is why those Uly were in the dumpster. The embossed skins would have made cool wall art though.

I can't be sure, since I wasn't there, but I'm pretty sure my 2010 was used for the web/brochure photos. There is a mark on the front graphic that matches a mark on the photos I've seen. Kinda cool if it is.

GR Harley has some 1125's and a uly or two, but they are near $9-10k. They were always high even in the bargin days.

I'm thinking of selling my '09 CR with 1700 miles for $6.9k with $500 worth of goodies...that's break even without taxes included.

is a COV the same as a demo bike? I thought a COV was different. I just wonder as I have a "demo" bike that had a full 2 year warranty. I was told it started when the bike was sold and titled.

No. COV means the previous owner was the Moco, which means it could of been used for a dozen things like Court stated above, including being a demo bike.

Many demo bikes were owned by a dealer and used for loaners, test rides, etc. The dealer usually won't title them, just throw on the dealer plate and ride the piss out of it. Hence they come with the full 2 year warranty, while the COV (usually) is in HD's name and the warranty starts when they "buy" it. : )

Ever ride on a bike that's on the Buell Demo Truck?

Those are COV's.

Ever go to a HD demo day (not a dealer day, but a HD "demo truck" day)?

Those are COV's.

Ever ride a dealer's demo bike?

That's just inventory that's getting miles put on it.

Dealer demos are untitled new vehicles that are designated as a "demonstrator" to log miles and hook buyers.

COV's are "sold" and titled to the MoCo - either HDMC or BMC - specifically BECAUSE they're gonna get the piss beat out of 'em and they want that warranty to be in full effect, all over the country (for the most part - there are, as Court noted, exceptions).

'08 1125R press bikes and "product knowledge" course bikes for dealers? COV's.

Magazine bikes? COV's.

Daytona Bike Week demos? COV's.

(hint - the giveaway is the WI license plate that says "MANUFACTURER" on it...)

Ratbuell is . . in fact . . dead on accurate.

Oh good lord...the end is near. : )
