So I asked a dealer today to find out about the carbon canister install, since I read about a few folks here having it installed free of charge. He talked to the service manager and they couldn't find any sort of bulletin about it. Anyone have any more info about this? Were those folks I read about lucky or are these guys just being lazy?

Thanks in advance!

If your bike is still under warranty and leaks fuel from the vent line, then you have a compelling safety reason to have the dealer install the carbon canister, and that's the way I would present it to them.

They will have to call H-D to get authorization for the warranty work.

There is no bulletin, you may be able to contact Harley CS and convince them to authorize the service.

Even if your dealer calls, they aren't as likely to get the authorization number as YOU are calling yourself. Mine tried, and got a 'Nope'. I called that same day and wasn't even through with my 'why you should cover this' explanation before the guy at H-D Cust Srvc said, "We'll absolutely take care of that, apologies for the trouble. Your authorization number is X".

Excellent...I'll try that route. Even still, the parts for it and the resistor plug (for the de-noid) was only $75. Not too bad I guess...

Well, that was kinda easy. I called and she gave me a reference number. She said the service dept would have to witness the dripping (ew!) and then call HD with that ref number to get the auth. Now I just hope it drips when I get there!

Want it to drip? Keep the tank mostly full and ride it a slow speeds (or let it idle a bit) in hot weather and the dripping fuel is almost guaranteed.

If you have the reference/authorization number, that's plenty. Have to see it drip? Like someone would go to the trouble of installing something to fix a problem that isn't there ; )

Mine never failed to drip, no matter the temp, how full the tank was or not, whether the moon was full or crescent, etc. I sure don't miss that drip. I do love this bike - It's a keeper!

Frame insulation? I am not familiar. Will do some searching on the subject, but if anyone has the links saved, it will be much appreciated.

Mine doesn't drip exactly, but if I fill the tank after riding it and go into the station to pay, buy the time I return (3 mins) there is a decent pool underneath the bike. I have resorted to leaving the cap open while I pay and that seems to be my short term answer.
