Helloes I have been running the K&N + HMF + E_B&R ECM combo on my 09' CR for a couple of months and am loving it. But all this talk of Air box mods and IAT Sensors has got me wondering, so who is currently running the air box mods with a performance exhaust and how does it compare? | ||

The bike seems to have more power, and I'm sure many would agree, WITH the inner airbox on. But with it removed and riding around the town, no highway or track top speeds >80, the sounds is awesome from the gasping throttle bodies, just my opinion. | ||

I have removed the inner & relocated the IAT, the bike feels stronger down low but its winter here & it loves the cold dense air.. I have compared both on & off, I will be staying with my current set up as I dont use it on the track or run it hard enough for ram air, I will leave that to my race bike. I am running a FMF/ K&N/ custom tune with my AFV,s locked @116 A/F ratio 13:1. They do sound wicked with the inner removed.  | ||

Before reverting to the stock exhaust I ran the HMF, E_B_R ECM, K&N, and tried it with the airbox off and on and the noise and vibration made me keep it on. I also relocated the IAT and got HIGHER temp readings than with the snorkel location so I reverted back. The only time I get high temp readings from the snorkel is if I idle for a minute or so at a dead standstill. There was a lot of discussion about this that got archived. Several seemingly knowledgeable people stated that the IAT sensor has no real effect on fueling (contrary to popular opinion) because the O2 sensors have the final word on fueling with our system. I noticed no difference with my IAT testing. I even ran the bike around with the IAT hanging out in the breeze well away from the heat. Made no noticable difference to the way the bike ran as far as I can tell. Seems like a complete waste of time. Opening up the airbox by removing the inner cover seemed to make no real difference until I also removed the little trim piece. Highscore pointed out that there is some sort of harmonic that effects the intakes at lower RPMs up to about 7500 and he guessed that it was the shape of the airbox. I lined my outer cover interior with neoprene, romved the tank trim piece, and felt a noticable difference between that and when I just took the inner cover off. | ||
