IS it really this simple? Here is what I have done: 1- opened radiator cap 2- remove drain plug from coolant pump 3- tipped overflow (reservoir) tank upside down to drain. I captured about 1.5 - 2 Quarts of fluid. Is that all there is in there? Thanks for any advice.... (I am exchanging anti-freeze for water wetter in preparation for a track day!) | ||

Even if that's not perfect, that will get 90% of it. | ||

What I do is drain what you can from the plug, switch out the coolant for water with a little water wetter, then fill the rad with the drain plug removed. Once the green coming out of the drain turns clear put the plug back in and fill the rads. Burp it and you're good to go. | ||

What plug in the coolant pump? I don't see a plug in mine. 09R | ||

Here you go Blur: the "crying" hole (just above center in the picture) is the pump's drain. It is the lowest bolt on the pump housing. Suggestion: Make a tin foil tray under it to keep the fluid directly flowing into your container and not on the shop floor. It does pour out pretty fast with the rad cap removed.  | ||

Right radiator and water pump - That's about 2/3 of the job, guys. To completely drain, you still have to access left radiator and unclamp hose there, too. It's in the service manual. I know, because I thought I had everything drained and buttoned back up, then saw that left radiator thing.... You should have about 3 liters in the pan when you're done. | ||

I drained mine, then filled with water, ran the bike until up to temp so it would pump, then flushed again. Repeat until the fluid that came out was clear, then re-filled with distilled water and water wetter. | ||

99 - that's what I ended up doing, too. Side note: If you have the EB Race can and pipes, you'll find that loosening (forget removing!) that water pump drain bolt becomes a particular PITA - unless you want to remove the header (I didn't). | ||
