Rex we are not there yet. At present we have four possible Vendors. Corbin, Baldwin, Saddlemen, and Al at A-S-B. PLEASE Correct me where I am wrong!

Corbin has their own seat pan design. The Corbin design has a different contour compared to others. There was a recent thread with a picture showing the Corbin held over the stock seat. Discussion centered on the forward part of the stock seat getting in the way of a man and was perhaps better suited to a woman. The Corbin had a distinctly different profile. Corbin wants us to use one of their dealers. If we decide on Corbin the vendor should be one that performs on service, price, and has an internet presence for payment etc. I have started a thread trying to learn just that called "Best BWB HD sponsor Vote".

Baldwin takes a new stock seat and does their thing or you can save $50.00 and send in your seat. I think Baldwin should be considered as a new vendor by using a new seat as their starting point. I don't know Saddlemen's seat pan policy, they were referenced by the recover minded members. The Saddlemen web site has some interesting and unusual designs. Al at A-S-B teased by saying he found the designer of the original Buell Comfort seat and would get back to us after the exhaust system dyno shootout.

44 members want new and 3 want to recover and deal with the pan issue = 47 total.

Vendors: A-S-B, Baldwin-BWB sponsor, Corbin, and Saddlemen.

Prices coming and then the vote.

The "Best BWB HD sponsor Vote" REFERRAL idea is not working. I am beginning to think that we may have to jump out of the BWB box in finding a Corbin dealer.

---- HELP----
I don't want this to lose momentum waiting for any one vendor. How do you think I-we should approach the Corbin dealer selection process?

My opinion: I've heard nothing but bad things about Corbin's customer service, and if they're also holding up the process = screw'um, I'd just assume get it from one of the others.

---Baldwin Start---

I just opened my email, from Baldwin:

"With the core cost included that would put our price at $318 plus shipping. That is for the saddle with orthopedic memory foam, and Pro Pad gel insert covered in vinyl. A very small price at the end of a high mileage day to not have your butt killing you and feeling like you will be ready to ride again the next day."

---Baldwin END---

---Corbin Start---
The BWB vendor search thread did not work.
The dealer I contacted by phone locally has not returned my email or called. I am feeling like a red headed step child.

I am trying to develop an alternative strategy for Corbin.

---Corbin End-----

---A-S-B Start----
our turn with Al is coming.
---A-S-B End------

If you are a BWB sponsor and have any interest speak up.

THX

Edit: S10darkascanb this is for the saddle only.

So for 50 orders they aren't giving us 1 cent off the price.

No discount from Baldwin

No reply from HD or Corbin

Future is looking grim for aftermarket parts.

Ratgin, your boss called. He wants you to work an extra 50 hours this week. Since he is giving you "volume" how much reduction in pay are you going to take?

Not quite the same. It's not like they're selling the seats at cost ... there's some profit margin to work with. And if we could guarantee 50+ orders -- orders that they would not have if we didn't organize this group buy -- they can adjust the price as incentive to have all us buy a seat. They're making more money than they are right now with 50 of us just sitting here not buying anything.

I mean if we get a price from Baldwin, a solid price for a certain number of people, I'd put money on AT LEAST 10 more people jumping on the bandwagon. You KNOW there's a bunch of lurkers just watching this thread waiting to see what happens. There's no problem with that ... the more the better.

All I'm saying is business ain't good right now for a lot of people. Not saying Baldwin is taking a hit it sales right now, but taking into account how every other small business owner I know commenting on a dramatic profit decrease, you can bet there was some influence. Sometimes to make a buck you gotta' compromise and cut your margin a bit ... if it's going to solidify 50+ orders going out the door, I know I'd do it. It's not he's cutting the price across the board ... just for us.

Someone walks up to your door and says here is $15k in new business.

What can you do for us on the price?

Your reply is nothing we don't need your business bad enough to offer you any discount.

Thanks for your time Baldwin I will take my money elsewhere.

The entire point of a group buy is to bring a new volume of business that is already organized for to a vendor in order to receive a discount.

Guessing you missed that meeting.

Hope your the owner of Baldwin or an authorized spokesperson. Reason being is i have pretty thick skin and was still leaning toward one of the leather seats when i saw the vinyl prices. Your comments changed all that and if you can piss em off you most likely pissed off 30 or so other folks,

Most companies in this economy don't toss away 15k in new business with smart ass comments so id hope you have the power to make that decision.

I am sure the Baldwin is an excellent seat.
Their business model did not meet ours, end of story.

------Corbin Start------

The Corbin people want us to go through a dealer. I am trying to use a BWB sponsor. The response has been lackluster. If it is acceptable to everyone, I am fully prepared to work outside the BWB box. I know I will get results if I can do that.

------Corbin End------

------A-S-B Start------
waiting for Al
------A-S-B End--------

Corbin and A-S-B Al's original comfort seat designer to choose from. The good news is we are now at 50 seats. Our buying power is concentrating.

Yeah it was a great try either way it goes ... just goes to show what kind of buying power a very specialized forum like ours has.

+1 Ratgin ... I sure hope Gowindward is not a voice from Baldwin because I was considering going with a vinyl gel seat if this didn't work out. Guess what ... going to a local custom shop even if it's more expensive.

Big orders help fixed costs.

If you have your fixed costs to do business, any additional order you bring in helps reduce expenses and put more money on the bottom line.

What could be tough with this group,is truly guaranteeing the order. it is not like Erik Buell Racing, or American Sport Bike coming in with a $15,000 check. this is a bunch of folks that say they want one, but what percent do you think will really step up and send you the money, so you can walk in and pay for the product up front.

If I was a vendor, I would give you a price based on certain quantities of orders. Minimal up to what you are telling them. Then, depending on how much money you bring in, you would know the price. What if the vendors gives you a price, and only have of the people step up....? just a thought. REX

Court, I think that's very reasonable insight.

I don't think there is any way to get close to that $150 price point and keeping it in the US. At 50 we don't have the quantity to make Chinese manufacturing a possibility.

The Baldwin still seems like a very reasonable deal at $320.

The Corbin isn't much less and I'd rather not deal with their C.S. issues.

Just my $.02
