After a lot of looking (and not liking tail bags)I finally decided on a set of Chase Hardin saddlebags. They are sort of a cross between a hard foam and neoprene type material. They maintain their shape like a hard bag and will only stretch a little. They are small, but I can fit my 12" laptop in them for my daily commute. IMHO they don't detract from the look of the bike like a lot of the soft bags I have seen do.

I really like the look of those bags....they're just a little too small for me. I have to carry my rain gear and room for my uniform for work and reflective vest.

I have these on my bike...I can take pictures tommorow if anyone wants.

And for days I'm not carrying much I have this:

I know nothing about saddle bags b/c I've never used them before, but for my touring trips on my CR I think I'm going to get the Cortech Sport Saddlebags. $130, will probably looks good on the tail of the 1125, and just large enough to throw a couple of changes of clothes and a pair of casual shoes (or flippy-floppies).

I like the Fieldsheers ... I like there stuff (wear their Razor jacket). The OP's is too small for me even though I like the look.

Any other alternatives?

The Cortech bags look to work very well on the R/CR.

I think I'll stick to the Ventura gear I normally take.. It's really good quality and stable on the move.

Keep posting pics of bikes with bags! Neil has the best I've seen for real touring, but I really want something a little slimmer in the looks department. Almost picked up a set of soft bags at a great price a few months ago, but they looked like they wouldn't hold a six pack of bottles!

Looking at the pictures of the Cortechs...they're the exact same as the Fieldsheers except for some cosmetic bits... Only real difference to me is the price tag since Bike Bandit has the Fieldsheers on sale.

Hey are the chase hardins waterproof? thats my main concern. I have owned the nelson riggs bags with the covers and really didnt like the way they kept out water. I have seen pictures of the new cortech line here...but no one said if they were of a waterproof material

I still really like the Buell bags. I don't have any pics of just them on the bike at the moment, but here they are with a couple other "travel accessories" to match:

They seem like they would be waterproof. It is a solid material. I just don't know if the zipper would keep the water out.

Here's the set of the Buell bags...

Quite watertight, wearing well, couldn't live without them.

Is it true that if you use the Buell saddlebags(or perhaps any saddlebags) that you can't ride with a passenger, since they can't have access to the pegs than?

No, if you keep the bags low enough and far enough back there's still (just) enough room for a pillion...

So far the only bags you can ride double with are my Givi V35s. The Buell bags and others are too far forward for the passengers legs.

If I could just find the Buell saddle bags for the 1125R (88209-09Y) then I would be happy. But, they seem to be all gone at this point. Anyone know where they might be available?

Ccryder,

More details on the hard bags and mounts would be great. How much work was involved in the setup? Cost? They look factory. Great job!

Greg:
The bags and brackets (before mods) are ~$500.

The square tube is what I added to the Givi brackets. I had to do some other mods to bolt them up but if you can beat, heat, bend and, weld a little, you could make these brackets.

PM me if you need some more info.

CCryder,

Thanks for the info. The pics of the brackets look good. How much mod to the bike itself?

I am afraid I haven't the tools or time (& likely not the skill) to do the bending and welding. If you are interested in making a set for profit, send me a PM.

CCryder,

Could you post some pics of the finished braces without the bags? Which attachment kit did you use? Do you think the PLXR kit could be used to keep the bulk of the attachment hardware removable with the quick release system?

Here's my 1125R with some Nelson-Rigg mini-sport bags (below). Two years ago they were just over $60.00, They serve my needs for that 400 mile mini tour when I want to carry extra clothes, camera, snacks and drink. Fairly sporty and maintains good handling. Bob
