Anyone have their dealer bitch about doing the harness upgrade after you denoided your bike? My service manager (who's very new to his job and came from a car dealership) said they wouldn't do the upgrade unless I put the solenoid back in. He said he called Deeley (the Canadian HD distributor) and was told because the harness plugs in to the solenoid it has to be in the bike. I explained about the resistor plug and that the plug is a Buell part who's sole purpose is to replace the solenoid. After having the same conversation with the tech they finally agreed to do it but won't guarantee the work or that the bike will run properly.

They pulled my resistor out and handed it back to me, since the harness has to attach there, they can't complete the service properly with the plug in there. I just re-installed it after I got it home.

That is strange because I have the resistor plug in mine,so I just checked and the plug is now attached to the new harness and the harness plugs into where my resistor was,you just got to take in the HD mentality they have always and still hate anything that says Buell on it so some dealers you have to play that game,it sucks but such is life...on another note my dealer knew I had a ebr ecm and made a point to call me and tell me to either bring the factory ecm when i brought the bike in or swap ecm's first,I did the later was no problem there, also i rode mine until the smoke came out of the stator so I got stator and the harness which I knew was cooking so I ordered a stator a month before..

I left my noid in there and just removed the cable.

Mine's in a skip somewhere... good luck to the dealer trying to refit that.

If they bitch about it I'll just show them the pics I took on the day I brought the bike home (new) where it clearly shows there was no cable connected to the noid.

They may need to think outside the box to do the upgrade but any "invalidated warranty" talk will just irritate me.

No noid at all, no resister (BEEN ON DEALER ORDER FOR OVER A MONTH), no complaints from them really, and they did the recall....hmmmmm, I wonder where they plugged in the harness then...

Hence my leaving my solenoid H/W there and just using the resistor plug. Whenever the bike goes back for anything, pop the seat off (quite easy with A S B quick-release pins) and connect the original wiring. When the bike comes home, pop the seat and re-install the resistor. I've been modifying cars (in CA even) for years ... Learned lots of lessons!

I may throw mine back in and just leave it unplugged. I don't care about the weight savings I just figured if it wasn't being used why leave it in.....I guess I know why now

Which is the number one reason to hang onto anything you take off the bike. My bike gets the stock air filter, solenoid, stock exhaust, and the OEM ECM re-installed before I bring it to the dealer. To do otherwise is just rolling the dice hoping they will not use those mods as a reason for any mechanical issues not being covered by the ESP.

I'm even going to find a replacement airbox since I made the mistake of drilling a hole there while doing some IAT relocation experiments. I've got 5 more years of coverage and I want nothing to jeopardize that.

My mechanic is a racer and I feel he would just go about his work, but the service manager is not a Buell guy, so I make sure my bike is completely stock mechanically and electrically when I schedule service with him in the event some internal damage is discovered.

hmmm.. I denoided mine several months ago. I just got it back from having the harness recall and stator put in... I never heard a peep from my dealer. I need to check where its plugged in then I guess. Running fine soooo....?

It mostly will come down to your dealer and your relationship with them. I've brought in my XB for a fuel pump under warranty, and they didn't care about the fact that my Lightning had no stock parts other than the frame, swingarm, and motor. Although they did give me a bit of a fuss over the stator claiming my GPS and cellphone charger was overloading it, but they still warrantied it anyway. : )

What the heck are you guys talking about. The harness upgrade connected to the noid. WHAT !!! Mine is NOT connected anywhere near the noid or my resistor.

Why would the harness connect to the noid?
i'm taking mine in this week to get the charging harness and clutch fix done, i wonder if my dealer will notice that the noid is gone.

The harness uses the noid circuit for power.

I left my resistor when I went in for the update. I figured it was a Buell part so no issue. I found the resistor plugged into the harness just as it should have been when the harness install was complete.

Guys,

Can you go to my thread:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/566073.html?1274317852

And point out where the resistor should go? My resistor is in the same place when I inserted before the harness update. I have two connectors dangling.

Thx

Thats odd, I denoided my 09 1125R on delivery and fitted the Buell plug, bike has just been back to the dealer for the wiring harness mod and they didn't even raise any issues.

Got the upgrade week before last and they said nothing about the denoid. The new harness plugs in and splits then the res. plugs into the new harness where it would have plugged into the noid. Wires are color coded one gray the other gray/orange.

One the reasons I tend to keep things easily reversible is that you just never know what dealer "X" or person "Y" is going to do. The guy at the GM dealership that will overlook your nitrous kit while repairing rear shock mounts might not be there on the day you take your car in. The guy at the other dealership across town that will overlook the aftermarket supercharger while doing non-related service, his service manager might notice and put an end to it. I'm a big fan of "I have a friend" or even the "It shouldn't matter because X, Y, Z" position - But I've learned it's not a great strategy. But that's just me ...

Petereid, interesting comment about Trev Deeley having an issue. My bike was bought at their dealership and when I went to remove the noid, I found the cable had already been disconnected ........ They also put my front tire on backwards ..... but that's another story.
My harness is finally in at the local dealership and I will be getting it installed soon. My plan is to redo the harness once I get it home anyway ..... Adding MORE connectors between the stator and the voltage regulator is just not the thing to do, in my book. I will place the relay between the connector and the regulator using just the one yellow wire that is required. I was wondering where they got power from to operate the relay. Now I see, the grey (+ignition power) that was used to operate the noid.

I did pick up my bike the other day and they did plug the resistor back in (and correctly hooked up the new harness). They just had me initial on the work order that I had instructed them to plug in the resistor instead of the solenoid. No mention of the solenoid being completely removed from the bike.

Pdawg- Lot to deal with? The harness took my dealer 30min, the flash takes 5. You tell them to verify these before pickup and they run your VIN.

It's not that big of a deal. A good dealer would have already done this. Late model bikes might already have this done.

It's not like most Buell, Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Guzzi, etc owners haven't delt with this stuff before. Engineering issues are sorted out and corrected free of charge. Not exactly a problem in my book.

Kirb,

i hear ya...just getting anxious. the dealer ran the VIN for me & they said it was listed as still OPEN, but they will be making sure its done before i pick it up. the bike is a Demo so they are almost certain any recalls have been taken care of, even if they forgot to enter them in the computer.
if they cant get it done before i take delivery it will be on order for ASAP.
i even spoke with the service manager (quickly becoming a good friend) and he said that if i EVER have an issue with my 1125R during the 7 years its under warranty, there will be no need to remove ANY upgrades & they will fix it NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

WOW!

way to go Barnes!!!
