Howdy folks! Haven't been around in a while, too busy riding. Here's some new videos on YouTube with a GoPro standard-def of my '09 1125R through my favorite mountain road. Once I get some new software I'll be posting those up. After having my XB9S, MV Agusta and the 1125R in the mountains, I must say that the 1125R is the best mountain bike I can think of. Comfortable for 300+ mile days of twisties, but it will hand with the best of them and effortless big-twin torque.  Jeff | ||

Windows Movie Maker WILL edit these...Dump them to your computer and add a video to the software...you must select from the pull down menu 'view all files' and not 'view all video files'. For some reason WMM does not like to see MP4's (I suspect another MS vs Apple issue). The software does import them and edit them. Kirb - thanks for the tip. I tried that already and when I import the HD video I get this message: The file GOPRO011.MP4 cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. I've been to the Microsoft website and cannot find anything regarding the codec to play .MP4 files. The GoPro website says to download a H.264 codec and I've tried several with no affect. I'm on a Windows Vista machine using Movie Maker 6.0.5002.18005, what OS and version are you using? I tried also on another computer and downloaded the latest Windows Move Maker Live, and it doesn't give me the above error message when importing the HD video, but the length of any size HD video comes up as 5 seconds with no images showing. Editing video on windows computers is like trying to make a steak dinner with a blender. It's the wrong tool for the job. Get a Mac. Stay at amateur level and cut with iMovie. If you have skills/talent/interest, get final cut pro. Either way, your problems end. Period. Unless of course you LIKE doing all sorts of time-sucking file management procedures... I've been there (from way back in DOS days)... what's the old saying? "Once you've had Mac you never go back". On the other hand, if you'd rather spend your $ on motorcycle-related items, there's a codec you can download to convert mp4 to avi or wmv. | ||

Nice videos. Too bad you didn't get one from the cockpit--I always like to see RPM and speed for runs like that. Your back tire looks like it still has a small chicken strip left, but I saw you dragging a knee more than a few times and you weren't leaning off the bike THAT much. So how is there still a bit of strip left when you're apparently hitting pretty good lean angles? | ||

Jng...I used my GF's vista laptop to edit these. I didn't expect WMM to work, but it did. I didn't do any codec updates, so not sure what is going on. You could always dump $30 on Quicktime pro which will do basic edits and is already an apple product. There is also video converters that will do the conversion for free. | ||

Natty and Kirb, thanks for the video tips, will try those. Fleshrocket - I've tried to position the GoPro where you could see the gauge cluster, but the distortion through the tinted OEM double-bubble makes it look like crap. Here's a video from last October of my MV Agusta at Daytona for a Team Hammer School. The GoPro is mounted on the triple clamp and gives a good view of gauges and the track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cizr8K3kczk LOL about the chicken strips. I hate them like anyone else and this is the first time I've had them on a bike after runs like this. These are the new Dunlop Q2 tires, which are simply incredible. I had them installed right before my trip and they warm up super-fast, give excellent feel and outstanding grip. Dunlop claims a "radical new profile" for even more contact patch, and that must be the case because I'm grinding down knee sliders in most corners and there's still about a 1/2 inch chicken strip left on either side. Interestingly, there is slightly less chicken strip on the front tire, so maybe I need to shim the shock and adjust the rear ride height? You have to be going at track speed/lean angles to get rid of them with a 180/55 + 5.0" wheel combination. Certainly faster than I'm going to go on public roads! Correct on the profile of the Q2s. I have the same issue going on with mine (about 1/4 inch chicken strip on the rear) and its good to know there is some reserve there (ie. not going to run off the rear tire.) They are great tires. | ||

Jng, strangely, the Q2 looks like it has a relatively flat profile in your picture--not nearly as rounded as the stock Diablos. I too have about a 1/4" chicken strip in the rear. I've got about 1400 miles on the bike so it's still on the stock tires. I've always de-stripped the rear on any of my street-ridden bikes, but not so on the 1125R. I started thinking that maybe I wasn't cornering as aggressively as I did on previous bikes, but perhaps that's not the case. If you're dragging knees and still have some strips left, it's not for lack of trying! I need to start wearing my track suit out when I go on group rides (I normally wear jeans, jacket, cloves, helmet) because I find myself pulling my knee in at speed out of fear of touching it down and skinning my knee! |
