Hey all,

I've been hearing about the Pump Gas RACE ECM from Erik Buell Racing. I sent them an email asking some questions but had no reply. I'm wondering if this is a sign of things to come.

Anyway, I'm wondering if those of you that got one can give me some reviews. I need details please. Don't just tell he it's great, I need to know if it changes the throttle response at low to mid range. Is the power band shifted or beefed up through the whole RPM range. I heard some people had the idle lowered. Does this adversely effect the response?

The reason I'm concerned is that someone here posted a bunch of dyno runs with the Erik Buell Racing ECM and they all looked worse than the stock results. I would like to know how it feels rather than how it looks on a dyno chart.

Thanks
Peter

Peter:
Which year and mods will you be using the ECM on?

I have an 08' with K&N and Torque Hammer. With the stock ECM everything was more than passable and driveability was 85% of perfect. With the Erik Buell Racing ECM I would rank it as 100%. Anywhere from 2,000-2,500 rpm I can roll on all the way to redline. Idle at 1500-1700 I can just let it putt around the parking lot. Everywhere in between the engine is much smoother and throttle response is there instantly.

If you are anywhere around Nashville, come on over and ride mine.

Later
Neil S.

Hello again,

I for got to mention, I want to keep the stock exhaust and upgrade the air filter to a K&N. I'd like to get a lower idle as well.

Neil, Thanks for the offer but I'm in Canada. I wish I was near Nashville. I need to sent my Les Paul to Gibson for some restoration work and I'm really nervous about sending it by courrier...

I would like to know how it feels rather than how it looks on a dyno chart.

There are several threads concerning this topic. Here is my take on the Erik Buell Racing ECM+K&N+stock pipe from a few days ago.

I have racing exhaust and pump gas ECM from the company that I can't name or it generates a link. There is an immediate and pronounced difference in low to mid-range response. I now run one gear higher in town because the low end is much more responsive than was the case with the stock ECM. I will dyno the new can and chip within the next week or two and post results.

I'm not sure whether I have more power across the range, but I do feel a difference at lower RPM. A roll on from 3000 RPM feels much more solid than it did before changing ECM.

Mine stumbled terribly if I gave it much throttle below 5k RPM. Above 5k, it felt like it revved out faster, but the below 5k stumbling was so bad I sent it back. To their credit, E B R said I might have received a bad one and/or my elevation (sea level) might have contributed and they would send me a replacement. I thought about it and decided to just get my money back. My bike ran so well with the stock ECM and FMF pipe that I decided the money would be better spent elsewhere.

Al Lighten, Jimmy and I are going to use the shop to do the 1125 Exhaust shoot-out Mon. and Tues. following the AMA weekend up here. One of our customers has offered up his 09-CR and I think we have at least four different slip-on systems to try. I am posting it here only because we will try the stock, OTC Erik Buell Racing and Full Race ECM on each system. It will take Al a week or so to get the data complied.

Erik Buell Racing has agreed to help us with the tuning, so a big thanks to all the Erik Buell Racing Gang.
