There is a lot of talk about matching an instrument cluster to the ECU. Isn't it to match the IC with the VIN number Not ECU?? I have put three different ECU's on my 1125R and everything works fine each time. I used BUE2D and BUEZD and they all accept Eeprom downloads burns too, thats how a pal and I adjusted my Erik Race ECU to put back the engine braking.

My mate is running without an instrument cluster at present & except for the turn signals everything else seems to be operating o.k?
But also there is no way knowing if a problem occurs due to the lack of warning lights!

Note, this is from memory reading the service manual which I don't have in front of me at the moment, and it is late and I am tired so I may be wrong, but I believe:

A new IC will write the VIN stored in the ECU after the 30 minute timer has elapsed. After this time the IC can only be used with this VIN. An ECU will marry to any VIN stored in the IC if the security system is inactive. Thus, once the IC marries to the VIN stored in the ECU, it is only useable with that ECU and that VIN. The ECU will write whatever VIN is stored in the IC and is thus swappable. Odometer information and VIN is stored in both the ECU and the IC.

Exactly as I thought. Thanks for clarifying things for all those with Cluster replacements. You can use any ECU as long as you don't try to use the security settings.
