A fellow asked me how many miles I have on my bikes earlier today. I have an '09 1125CR with 6,500 miles and a '08 XB12S with 15,000 miles... so thats 21,500 miles I put on in just over a year and a half.

I have never read what is considered low\mid\high miles on a bike. On average would 60K be considered high?.... 100K...? 200K?

Thanks!

I have 96K miles on my 14 year old S1 about 7K a year. I would say you are very well on the high side. In 14 years you are on target to have 280,000 miles! wow!

Beats me, there are plenty of Uly's and Tubers running around in the 100k club. One guy I know has nearly 300k on his tuber.

i think for reliability predictions i would check some other bikes that use rotax engines. Like KTM, aprilia, and can-am. From what i have heard about rotax, they seem to be very well engineered and reliable. This particular engine has not been out long enough to gauge long term reliability, but i'm sure you could check some forums of rotax based bikes to get an idea.

For example, i has a sportster before my 1125cr, and i was on the sportster forums a lot. I talked to a few guys that had over 250k miles!

The Aprilias are for the long haul as well, I've seen some Tuono's with 60K and no major problems, on a side note the 99-04 RSV's and Tuono's have the same Stator Rectifier problems we have been experiencing. I'm still checking into some options on getting one "beefed" up and rewound to check for longevity enhancements.

Xbud - that sounds like a great idea. My S1/sporty stator is in there with all the trans fluid. Do the 1125s get enough oil in there to dissipate heat?

If you are talking used late model bikes anything over 2-3 thousand miles per year is high mileage.

I put on at least 5k miles on each 2 of my bikes...the M2 and FJR. Now it will be the CR and FJR. I've got over 2k so far this year between them.

The super X is much less.

OP, from what my Boss was telling me (he has ridden for years), most japanese sportbikes are roughly comparable to half a car's milage. So, 50k roughly equals about what you would expect from a car with 100k on it.

With the lower RPMs of the v-twin and the fact that it is a Rotax powerplant, my novice knowledge would make a rough guess that 75k on the Buell would be about 100k on a car... just a guess though.

BUell riders are mostly statistical outliers as far as mileage. IE--We like to ride, ride often and ride far. The vast majority of bike owners buy a bike as a garage ornament. If you are talking your typical used bike on Craigslist (which are usually from the dudes that FINALLY realize they aren't motorcyclists and its time to get rid of the extra payment) they have even lower miles cause those owners are often on the other side of the bell shaped curve from us Buellers.

Sinjhin... good feedback... there are alot of great chimes (keep them comin) within this thread but yours hit kinda what I was looking for. A bud of mine reads TONS of mags, online info, etc etc etc and he doesn't ever recall coming across anything that mentions "what is high miles on a bike?"...

everything I've read pretty much states that bikes, for the most part, far outlast cars in regards to mileage... they're bullet proof... but...?

I had my 15K service today... the HD service rep stated that on average... most people ride their bikes 80 to 100 miles a week. I did that just today going to\from work.. heh.

Fresnobuell... I think you're onto something. At the office I have buddies that ride a Ducati 1098, Honda 599 Hornet, GXSER 1000, and a Vrod... guess who is riding year round... thats right... the guy with the Buellys : )

I have a KDX-200 that probably has about 5000 miles on it before I got it. There wasn't a part on it that wasn't beyond worn out.

I have an 05 XB9SX going back together in the garage now with 30k miles on it. I don't doubt it'll go another 30k miles with no issues more significant then a dead stator or something.

The plan for the Uly is to crack 100k...

I've got 70K+ on my 2000 X-1. Still runs better than new thanks to a blueprint at 26K.

Mountainstorm, what do you mean by "a blueprint at 26k"?

Man, it depends on the bike and how it is ridden. My last CBR600 (1994) got to over 124k and was still running fine even though those were nearly all city miles. My KLX650 (1997) has only got about 11k on it and it is whooped to hell but it was beaten through the dirt on long rides through Mexico.

Really only time will tell with 1125s.
