You guys are probably sick of hearing about my LCD displaying SYSTEM VOLTAGE. sorry but here goes again!

For those who dont already know- Symptom: LCD goes dark and displays SYSTEM VOLTAGE. Bike runs fine. headlight stay on and appear brighter. no CEL, no neutral light, no turnsignal, no clock etc. Restart bike and everything is fine. NO CODE in diagnostic mode. No code according to my local HD service center. Of course this problem is intermittent and did not happen after a 60mile test ride.

I checked all connections under tail and fairing, instrument cluster, ECM, battery, everything looks fine. Battery holds a charge and is always 12.3-12.6 volts

I noticed when I restart that the volt meter on the display is reading very high for 5-10 seconds up to 17 volts and then slowly drops down.

soooo....With this observation and the lights appearing brighter..... I was thinking hmm, maybe a voltage regulator problem?

There are four relays on this bike, from what i understand they delay power delivery to certain systems until the bike has started up. The relays are next to the battery i think. There are 4 relays if i remember correctly there is one dedicated to the ic. If the relay that runs the ic is bad, then that makes sense why all your headlights stay on, it also makes sense why your turn signals won't work, the ic controls the turn signals.

thanks for posting up.

I am parting out an XB12R that has the exact same relays so I swapped out the one for the key switch. Looking at the diagram it seems this would also have the IC circuit

on my morning ride it did it again and I tried to check the voltage at the battery with an actual multimeter but the IC "reset" itself with out a restart. However, I did notice that the IC volt meter was showing greater than 15 volts for like 30 seconds or more. It isnt supposed to be more than 14.2 I thought

this is diagnostic for a bad voltage regulator. right?

Al at american sport bike is ordering a few so he'll have them on the shelf in a few days

thanks again
