O.K. Any of you track day junkies (or anybody who does their own wrenching...)

Fixing to go on vacation for a couple of days to Leakey, TX. The twisties windiest funnest roads within a days drive of where I live. Got fresh shoes, service, all juiced up, leaving tomorrow morning, and on the way to work today I realized I have just under 9K on my front brake pads.

Gonna pickup a set tonight and slap em in. Did it before on my XB, but here's my question.

Is there any way to get the caliper off without pulling the brake line? I know I could probably use the fluid change, but it'd be quicker if there is a shortcut.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

(Plan B is to yank the caliper and all off of CR #2, which only has about 700 miles on it.)

Pull wheel off first. No need to remove line.

i haven't had luck pulling off the caliper with the wheel installed. some say it can be done, but i cannot finger it out.

the ZTL2 has 4 small pads. all you should need is a screw driver (to pry against the rotor/pads and push the pistons back into the caliper to make room for the new -thicker- pads)
and an allen wrench for the 2 pins that hold the pads in place.

with any luck(mechanical agitation) they'll slip/fall out and you can drop the new ones in. re-use the preforated backing plates if the new ones don't come with them.

Check this out. Just talked to my friendly neighborhood service adviser, (Thanks Skyler!), and here's the shortcut.

Unweight the front wheel(floor jack under the front of the muffler or somewhere, with the kickstand down), unscrew the front axle just out of the right fork, undo the 2 caliper bolts, and rotate the fork and bracket out of the way.

Unless you manage to drop the bike on yourself, it should be cake!

FWIW, I'm probably going to open the system, and put in fresh brake fluid. If I had the stock muffler on, I'd do the afforementioned process, but with the Drummer, it eliminates a Jack Point.

Just remove the disc thats what i did tool me a half hour to do the pad install removing the disc .

Scooby, you need to check on something... I'm pretty sure that the hardware that attaches the rotor is one time use only, and has to be torqued to a specific "stretch" on the bolts... That is one thing that you really don't want to mess with.

I would suggest that you verify that. I could be wrong, but please do check on that.
