I went to Mid-Ohio today and only got two sessions in(due to crap weather)but had a blast. The new Michelins worked alot better than I thought they would. Also the bike performed awesome with the Drummer exhaust.
I kind of wish I would have replaced the brake pads but they still worked pretty well. I just didn't have the feel I wanted in the lever. I am currently running the EBR racing pads and they are close to needing replaced. What brake pad is out there that works close to mine? I really hate to spend $185 for brake pads at the moment.

I like the EBC Extreme Pro pads for the 1125r.

They throw an ENORMOUS amount of dust (as really all pads do when used on track), so if you do a lot of track days, also pick up a caliper seals and pistons kit from EBR and plan on servicing the caliper every 3 sets of pads or so.

Jdugger, have you swapped rotors out yet? I am thinking about going to the 5mm. EBR told me that was the best for my application. The EBR pads are awesome in every aspect and last forever but man it is tough handing over the cash for them.lol

Your already have a 5mm rotor. YOu mean the finned rotor? Are you fading the brakes? If not, it's going to affect handling negatively with no benefit.

I second the EBC Extreme pro pads. they worked wonderfully my last track day. Bad for the street. The stockers perform better for street application.

Fresno, would you mind elaborating a little more? I am wondering how a finned rotor will negatively impact handling compared to solid rotor? Never heard that before.

I could see that maybe if you were talking about the thicker 6mm solid race rotor (due to added weight), but not sure I understand the negative of finned...It's the same thickness as OEM, right?

I've been slowly moving to the new 5mm finned rotors as I've torn up my OEM rotors. I like them a lot -- along with the EBR mounting kits they move a lot more heat into the wheel and really reduce brake drag... Highly recommended!

The basic question is:

Are your rotors blue, purple and straw colored, even where the pads don't rub? If not, don't get the race pads/parts. If so, and you are getting some brake fade, the race bits work really well.

The finned rotor is heavier than the stocker but not as heavy as the 6mm rotor.

My rotor is the exact colors you mentioned. I even have the straw color where the pad dosen't touch the rotor. I was thinking about going to the finned rotor and install the EBC race pads only when I go to the track. That way they last a little longer. How long have the EBC pads been lasting?

So if the 5mm finnned rotor is best what is the purpose of the 6mm rotor?

I believe Buell Racing developed the 6mm rotor first, before the "finning" idea. As far as I know, once the finned rotor came out, everyone used it...

The 6mm is 3.692 lbs & the 5mm finned is 3.486 lbs.

Cfoss,

I think we have talked before. The last times I talked to you you where riding the blue Buell(saw it on the trailer). Glad to see you bought an 1125r. I saw it had full fairings on it. What else has been done to it?

My bike is still pretty stock other than the Drummer, Taylormade case guards and EBR brake pads. If you don't mind me asking what kind of times are you running on the 1125r?

The 6mm is larger, and thus having more material can handle more heat. It will last longer, too.

That, and it's a bit cheaper.

Here's the rundown: It's a bone stock $3,000 salvage bike. The frame had scratches which salvaged it. I replaced a foot peg, handlebar and painted the frame black. The bike had a D&D which I sold and got a free stock exhaust to put back on it. I'm saving for the drummer or the EBR stuff. I bought the bodywork from Mike Shultz at HDFR. It's Bemisderfer's old stuff. Mike's a great guy to work with. I put on Power One Michelins and EBC pads.
We didn't pick up a signal off the transponder last weekend, but last year while learning the bike, I was hitting low 1:43's. I'm stuck at low 1:47's on the Tuber.
By the way, we rode with Paul James last year. He was pulling 1:39's and had never been on the track before. Another great guy. He said to stick with the stock brakes other than pads. They were only using the 6mm's at Road America. No radial master cylinder either.

Quick note: Mid-Ohio gave a $65.00 credit for the rain out. I've never seen that in all my years track riding. Kudos to them. I highly recommend the track.

WOW $3000 that is a deal! I wasn't picking up on the transponder either. Last year I was running 1.48's pretty regular in traffic. I am hoping to improve to the mid 1.40's this year.

I have to give a big thumbs up for the Drummer. I works awesome and is built like a tank.

I think I am going to upgrade my rotor before my next track day. It has seen 9 track days and 4000 street miles. It has turned all sorts of colors.

I was shocked when I got the email from Mid-Ohio that is pretty awesome.

Hey, I have the forks from that bike ! They have 1.0 springs and the 25mm Showa kit. I've done one track day so far, and found that the rebound seemed too light. I took them apart last weekend and added a few low speed shims. Hope to see you guys a Mid-Ohio sometime this year. I'm signed up for May 10 with NESBA.

The bike had 1600 miles on it when I bought it. It has 200 more track only since I've had it. My rotor still looks O.K. but I guess I should keep an eye on it. Has anyone noticed fading as the rotor ages? The braking has been great for me so far.

Ysracer, We were planning on coming up for the NESBA date on the 10th as well. My brother has some bruised ribs from a low side last weekend. We were hammering on a dry track when it started raining and he went down. I don't recommend riding Mid-Ohio in the rain. It's extremely slick.

I may still try to come up. I have a friend with an XB12R that I may try to bring along.

That's an understatement ! Been there, done that.......

BTW, I'm using the 5mm finned rotor with EBC Extreme Pro pads,a Brembo 19RCS master, and Ca$trol RBF. I was still experiencing some fade, and material was being ripped from the face of the pads. Looks like one track day is about the life expectancy of them. I used to get two days from Vesrah RJL pads on my 600 before they started to lose the good feeling.

The big thing to keep an eye on are the drive bushings. They require frequent replacement or they will gall the rotor at the mount points.

YSR,

Are you using the new EBR mount kit as well, or OEM? The new kit comes with a copper washer that works really well for pulling heat out of the rotor.

Also, on your pads, are you bedding them in? I'm not the fastest guy on the track, but only one track day seems a bit short on life for the Extreme Pro EBC pads. I usually get roughly two front tires out of them.
