Just got the Apex repack kit.
wanted to mention about the repack
indicator. From the packaging says:
The purpose of the Repack sticker is to show when the temperature of the carbon
canister has reached 370 degrees.
Each time you run the engine , packing
material burns and blows out.
The temp of the canister increases as
packing is lost and carbon becomes brittle with excessive heat. When the sticker
changes from clear to black indicating temp of the carbon canister has reached
370 degrees, you MUST replace the packing material. Says every 6k to 11k mikes must replace. Only got about 4k new out the box.
So first time and probly the last for this. Going with a muffin with out having to repack it is the way to go. Searching soon.

Thanks for the data point. I was wondering if anyone had to repack their pipe yet.

Bummer hearing all this negative news about the FMF pipe; mine is suppose to be here on Monday! Maybe I should mark the box "return to sender". I don't want to have to spend MORE money ($60+, right?) and MORE time re-packing a pipe every 6k miles.

No probs with the FMF just have to repack.
Sound is great until the packing is gone.
4k miles seems to arrive to quick for me.

If you know your bike well enough you'll notice a sound difference. Repacking a pipe really isn't a big deal. Once you do it the first time you'll see how easy it is.

Yep, big sound difference.
They even include new rivets.

Mine turned black after about 200 miles. I called FMF this morning. They said it's the first time they have ever heard of it with such little run time and would get back to me. I emailed Erik Buell Racing to see if they have seen anything like it...and they said no.
