I am putting on the highbar kit and i will need to get some dot 4 brake fluid, as i will have to swap the lines, anybody recommend a good brand for brake fluid, or is it all the same?

Also, any tips on the high bar install?

Motul RBF600 is the standard choice for performance considerations. It's really good fluid, and resists brake fade at track days.

In the clutch it doesn't really matter. It's going to turn black in about 10 miles anyway.

does that motul last as long as other brake fluid, or because its "high performance" does it turn black quicker?

Is there any fluid that will make the clutch pull easier?

Is there any fluid that will last a long time?

DK - I think Jdug was yanking your chain a bit. The fluid turns black because of issues other than the fluid itself. (see clutch weep strings).

I've never had it turn black when used for the brakes. But, I swap mine about once a quarter. The main key is pouring it from a newly opened (as in, a couple of minutes ago), fresh bottle.

The clutch fluid turns black in about 10 miles, in my experience, but that doesn't seem to be an issue.

Not to my knowledge. One thing that does make the clutch pull easier is to disengage it during heavy engine braking. But, that's not always an option.

> Is there any fluid that will last a long time?

Dunno.

RBF600 performs really well in these bikes for the brakes. It doesn't fade and after the brakes get hot gives a nice, firm lever action. Any ordinary DOT 4 works well for the clutch.

My advice: Run it, keep an eye on it, service it when required.

yeah, i realize the clutch fluid will last longer then 10 miles. I just want some good clutch/brake fluid that lasts a decent amount of time, and it would be cool if i could find some clutch fluid that makes the clutch easier to pull.

The fluid itself will likely have little effect on the clutch effort. There may be some viscosity effects, but probably very minor. Clutch pull is primarily related to clutch spring weight, master/slave cylinder size and mechanical advantage of the lever.

I didn't worry about it too much - just bought whatever DOT4 they had on the shelf at wallyworld. Think it cost 2.99. Anyway, it seems to work...

As for high bar install tips - well, the search function is your friend, there's a lot of 'em out there. But in the end, bending the cable bracket on the throttle bodies was the tip that fixed all my binding issues. And just don't think you're going to do the job in 2 hours. Plan on 6 and you'll at least be in the ball park.

Forget that high price stuff.
Been using Castrol fluid for many years. Flush it about every 6 months.

The brakes don't care about the name on the bottle.

Never had a brake problem with many, many miles on a bunch of bikes.

there is a video on here that was great. I had to bend mine as well and instant relief, for me anyway.
Took me a good 5 to 6 hours of sweating, worrying, and crying before I got it done and then looked back and thought it wasn't all that bad.

One bottle will do the job and then some, honestly.

When I do brakes/clutch, I find I can completely flush three bikes with one bottle.
