These bikes crash surprisingly well. Check out the series starting at #69 -- that's me wadding up my '08 track bike exactly THE FIRST TURN after setting a personal best at Eagle's Canyon this last weekend. The photographer missed the actual crash but got the run out. I low sided in Turn 1, and then bike flipped when it hit the curbing. Thrashed the clutch side puck, handle bar and pod, but minor damage there. The big damage was being upside down -- lost a fairing stay and subframe. http://www.stephenwclark.com/p753859142 | ||

A Buell would not be my first choice of track bike - but only because I love them too much ! But at least you're OK and the bike doesn't look too bad either. | ||

Glad you are ok - yes the 1225's crash like CHAMPS. May I offer a little observation? When I looked at the first picture I know right away that it wasn't going to end well. You need to work on getting your body off the bike..you have the bike leaning over so much that the lowside was inevitable... | ||

Edmbueller, you are absolutely correct.. i hadnt done a track day in a couple years and was really juiced and pushing to hard, for my skill and my cold tires. I plan doing at least one more track day this year and practice "hanging off" more. i just hope to keep it on the rubber this time. Tim | ||

I recommend you unplug your headlights just so they don't make removal of that tape so difficult. Sorry about the lowside. At least it was on the non-exhaust pipe side. | ||

As Edmbueller surmised, that was my first impression as a possible cause of the low side + the cold tires. Great to see the rider's humble acknowledgment, we learn something new everyday. My cold tires crash + speed ended badly five years ago, fortunately I lived through it. | ||

Chiefiron, how is Firebird? It is starting to get a little hot for a track day but I have been thinking about it anyway. The only thing holding me back is that, from a distance, the track looks pretty flat and uninteresting. I am also not so sure about the condition of the tarmac. Opinion? | ||

What tires are you running and how many warm up laps did you give em? I cant believe they dont make you unplug your headlights also. They make us tape ours off and unplug them out here. | ||

Painful pic's to look at. I've only had my '09 1125R for 10 days and that kind of damage is unfathomable. Rode my XB9R for 8 seasons and 23K miles without dropping it once (by the grace of God). Then again never did a track day, but contemplating keeping the XB9R and maybe taking her to the track......seems like it'd be a riot!   | ||

Thanks all, Lets see. Ratsmc. Firebird is ok...like you said flat and pretty unexciting....as long as you stay on the track. Mr_incog. Stock tires less than half a lap and i didnt even think about unplugging them and no one said anything. Mountain i had just had them reset from my first session (street pressures) to 30 or 31 both. I wish i had kept my 04XB12R...loved it for the track but i still would have ridden the 1125 that day. As rare as they now will be its still a bike and one i love to ride. Did a 200+ mile ride with some of the AZ bueller guys up to Bagdad AZ the next weekend on it. Nice roads to boot and only thought about my crash on the way back down the mountain tired and freezing. Thanks for all the words of support... As i heard on hear somwhere. "Ride it like you stole it from the guy who stole it". PS: I hear from the badwebber i left it with to get repaired the EBR ECM is making a huge difference an that the suspension was far to soft. Cant wait till i get back home to ride it again. Tim | ||

The EBR kit is a nice first upgrade for suspension, highly recommended for the money. I went with AK-GAS and a Penske this last round. They are an incredible combination. Too bad I wadded my track bike the FIRST TURN after setting a new personal best. Feces occur. | ||

Ouch. Glad you're ok...the bike, as noted...it's a bike. They can be replaced if need be. That said - a friend who does a lot of track days on an '08 1125R got word from Pirelli that he should run in the high-20s for tire pressures on track (like 28/29psi at each end). Stock C3's. He was getting exit-slip and some apex-push out of 'em the way he was running, and that's what the rep told him. He tried it - cautiously, because it seemed too low to him - but had great results. He's blublak here on badweb, you can probably find him in the DC Storm Front page if you want to get with him directly and get accurate information And now you know - WARM 'EM UP!! Yep bikes being fixed as we speak no big issues. Im not sure i could tell the difference in 2 lbs of tire pressure, my skill level is not up to that level yet. I have met blublak...my first track day at Pocono back in 06 i think it was..if i recall he went off the track and wadded his firebolt. Good dude and took good pics too. I think lots of Badwebbers were there it was a sunday and sponsored by a Buell dealer nearby (NJ?) i think. Tim | ||

Honestly I never had any luck with those tires. I have had my share of problems keeping the bike upright. My XB would make the 1125 look like it was backing up in corners. I tried different suspension settings and finally I just bought different tires. Wow. I wish I had done that right away. I keep hearing how so many people like these tires but I just cant imagine how. |
