I have been looking around the web (including this website) for quite a while trying to weigh all the fairing options. I wanted to try and compile them all into one thread for easy viewing/discussion of each. Catalyst Racing Composites Grand Stand Designs Flexi-Glass And of course theres the Buell factory fairings (worst looking IMO). Ininew, I definitely like the Flexi-Glass Ram Air side covers the best! And the simple fact that it saves weight over stock & makes the bike run cooler is the most important to me personally. The only thing i don't see there is a belly pan to go with the set. Also, 300 bucks seems a bit steep to me (if its per side). axl | ||

I know what you mean about the official Buell fairing - the panels seem very wide - I have been considering trimming mine down at the front, but it will mean trimming down the front of the pods as well. But at least they mate up to the nose fairing - I'm not too keen on the ones that leave a gap between the nose and the pods. | ||

I know there are members on here that have installed these onto their bikes. Do any of you think a beginner could install these by themselves with little to no metal working tools? (I have seen some people mention making mounting brackets. | ||

That is the main advantage of the official Buell offering - it comes with all of the brackets - although you may need to space them out a little to give more clearance between the exhaust and the fairing - but you can use washers to do that. The biggest problem with the Buell fairing is finding one - as an accessory they stopped making them when Buell shut down. If you decide to fit a fairing that isn't supplied with brackets then offer them up to the bike to get an idea of what you need - you can make some brackets out of cardboard to use as templates - then hit your local DIY store - you'd be surprised what you can find lurking on the shelves that can be adapted to use. | ||

I like the Ilmberger kit, but not sure if I want to spend $2300 for fairings. I've been talking to ultimaterider.net about the ZR fairing kit, just waiting to find out shipping terms. You can buy the side and lower pieces separate for $350,if you don't want the front piece, and they sell a mounting kit. | ||

Yup, the ZR kit works with the stock front fairing I'm told. Looks like it doesn't actually contact it. I'm in the Northeast USA. I get machine parts sent from Italy for work all the time, I'm guessing no more than $100 for shipping. I'll let you guys know when I hear back, hopefully Monday. | ||

Yeah, thats the only reason I'm leaning towards the Catalyst Composites fairings... I love the look of it connected to the top fairing. | ||

Still waiting to hear from Ultimaterider on shipping, Solobuell said they won't ship here for a few weeks because it is so expensive, they're working on a deal with a shipping company. The sides are 65 Euros each, lower is 138, lower brace is 18, and hardware is 16 for a total of 302 Euros, about $410 USD + shipping. | ||

That's better than the Catalyst at $600 USD (roughly). SoloBuell also emailed me the same thing concerning shipping to the states. Said to email them back in a few weeks. | ||

Well 410 is a hell of a lot better than 2k or something outrageous like some of the other kits. I actually dont mind how the top doesnt connect...for me, i just want something to smooth out the look of those pods. =) axl | ||

Well, there are a couple things i dont like about the factory fairings. To start, they go OVER the existing pods...whats the point of the fairings if they dont do anything other than make it look different? most of the fairing options out there make the bike run cooler and help with weight loss. sorry fatboy...i guess i just feel like HD could have done better? axl | ||

The only bikes I have seen the factory fairing on and it look good was the AMA pace bikes and that is because they had a belly pan on them.  | ||

The HD fairing is "OK" (IMO) I was surprised that it fits over the pods too but I do like the fact that it blends with the top fairing. The lack of bellypan is the issue I have, especially when you remove the OEM exhaust (the lack of bellypan is more noticeable). A bellypan that mounts to the HD fairing would give me everything I want... | ||

I agree they are mostly aesthetic, different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't have them at all, but the dealer already had them installed on the bike when I bought it. But I do like them specially when they didn't cost me anything. | ||

It does look out of place, but the 1125 isn't the prettiest bike anyway. Part of why I bought one. I hate being the same as every other squid out there, I like being the different squid on weird bike  | ||

I put in a request for info to EBR a month or so ago - trying to find out if and what fairings they would be offering - no response yet. Because they do offer belly pan, I figured there would be compatible fairings in the works - does anyone know the skinny on this?? Specifically, this was what I asked about......   | ||

If they're only allowed to make "race only" components, I don't see why they would make a one piece "street use" fairing. |
