awww crap, on my way to work instrument cluster goes dark, no odometer, no CEL, no speedometer, headlight still on and LCD displays "system voltage error" click to neutral shut down and restarts fine. I never stopped for a full evaluation.

Once at work and in diagnostic mode... NO CODE? huh

I fear a failing stator

waddda ya think?

I have an 07 build R and today when I was leaving work I peeked down before pulling out and saw low system voltage on the IC but the battery light was not on. Its a 26 mile trip that I made in the AM at freeway speeds cruising at 5K rpm. Ive put 400 miles in the past week so Im wondering what that was about.

Did it again.. LCD display says "SYSTEM VOLTAGE" bike runs fine, head light and tail light work. Everything else electrical is shut down. no signals, LCD is dark no CEL, no time, odo just the words system voltage. turn off bike and restart. everything is fine. this condition throws no code.

I wonder if this is what the relay in the new charging system harness is supposed to do?

Oh, also when I restart the volts displayed are really high, like > 15, for several seconds and then go down to the normal 13.4-13.8 range.... this makes me think I am running on battery only with this condition.

I suppose my stator is not long for this world and look forward to it's replacement!

surely if you were running on battery only :-
1). There would not be enough battery power to restart the engine.
2). Voltage would be way below 15 volts running on battery only.
Sounds more like a voltage regulation problem, I have never seen over 13.8 volts when in operation even just after start up in cold weather.

Hope this helps

when you start your bike... that's battery power and battery alone. normal

the increased volts were observed on the restart and only for 20-30 seconds. (Bike is normal after restart) I assume the increased voltage output was to replace a partially drained battery after riding with a turned off stator. Maybe from tripping the new relay... no idea really, obviously im just guessing!! LOL
