Just a subject I always talk about, argue and why I love The Buell and V-Twins from HD.

Great article in Cycle World May 2010 right close to the great Buell article.

So back to Torque. Just a few points from the article-When riding a reasonable normal road the shape of a torque curve is the most important. Flat Torque curves and wide power bands make for great street motors. Buell-1125 !

Steep Torque curves and narrow power bands are great for racing- Most metric bike's

So when somebody brags on how much Peak HP they got is does not mean it's the ideal motor package : ) As 1125 Owners we know this.

If your bike makes a bit less HP but has a broader, flatter torque curve you are still likely to open a big can of " Whoop-Ass on him just about anyplace than a racetrack"

This is why discussions about Torque and HP can be misleading if you don't understand those terms actually mean.

I'm just a Big fan of this and when it is a feature article in a mostly metric magazine I get a Big Grin : )

They compare a Big V-Twin from HD and a 600CC Kawasaki - Which on the Big end screams but @ 13,000-RPM

This is why I really appreciate the flat torque of this 1125 Buell !

A big flat torque curve can do just fine at the track. See the Ducati (present and past) and the Honda RC51 (SP2).

+1 Kidder
Add one more. There are a lot of middleweight riders that find themselves looking at the back end of an SV650 ; )

1125r and twins in general make great track bikes.

Smooth, predictable power and lots of low end grunt so you aren't picking up gears all the time.

I really enjoy the 1125r on the track.

It's just like the American bloody V8 in my car and that's why I bought it!

Not crazy High RPM HP but Plenty of torque everywhere:

No reason you can't have both. My ZX-14 was the best bike I've ever had; street, commute, tour, and track. Over 80 ft-lbs from 3K-12K, 186HP at the top of it, and absolutely perfect throttle response everywhere.

I like my CR and my new S1000RR, but if I had to pick one bike, it wouldn't be either of them.

Captain - what the hell is that? EFI SBC with a Procharger? Sitting in some sort of musclecar? Inquiring minds want to know... : )

If and when I get my garage built, I'm getting ready to do something similar (if I'm guessing right, that is) - I have the 5.7 Hemi out of the wife's totalled/T-boned Magnum R/T, the 5 speed autostick trans, all the wiring and computers...and a 1972 Plymouth Satellite station wagon that's a solid 13.0 second street car (full stock interior, stock body, solid axle, no tubs) with a carbureted 360. Only things I need to buy to make it happen are a conversion engine mount kit, a mid-sump oil pan and pickup, and a custom computer flash that eliminates the ABS/traction control (mainly because I don't want the hassle of importing ABS into the '72). Oh, and the Procharger, but I'll probably go intercooled : )

Its my 1972 GMC Sprint (same as a Chevy El Camino), Factory 38 yr old SBC with my Throttle body injection system called the Powerjection III sitting on top of a dual plane air gap manifold getting blown by a Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger @ just over 5lbs of boost. I also control the spark with the PIII. I wish it was a Procharger, Those things sound so mean!

SORRY ABOUT THE HIJACK!

Ratbuell,

Your project sounds cool! should be nice. I'm only pushing a little over 5lbs so I really don't need to intercool it. What do you plan on running for boost?

I'm only 22! I hope I don't die anytime soon lol. But thanks Little! Ya man you can have it when I go. Its nice to get some appreciation for her.... And everyone on here thinks I beat the piss outta everything I own. I think my car is proof that I don't. I have so much time, bloody knuckles, and money tied up in her. She's not done yet either. Getting a new rear end as we speak and I'm building a nasty little small block too. Haha the torque-less imports hide when I roll up. They won't even race me... Then they hear the blow off and shit their pants.

Ummm should I take that as a compliment or an insult?

That car/motor is running more efficiently now than it could have ever dreamed of....

This is a forum for high performance motorheads intent on using up the worlds remaining oil as quickly as possible. How doya think I meant it? And I own 7 motorcycles.

By the way, due to your age I'm wondering if you've ever watched "Easy Rider" and if that's your inspiration for Captain America?
