Hi all I live in Quebec and we have weird laws here! For instance the 1125R has been identified as an extream risk to personal injury by our illustrious overlords and so they are charging 1,300$ per year as a surcharge for wanting to drive a 'high-risk' motorcycle. The 1125CR on the other hand is not categorized as presenting and extream risk of injury to ones self, state infrastructure, and others on and around the road; and so has no surcharges. Sounds like a load to me!

So my question, is regarding turning a CR into an R? is this possible? I presume I could Change the gearing, and change the front end?

Anyone know if the R front fairing will fit a CR? I might even try to keep the further forward handles of the CR if I can.

Eventually I'd like to turn this baby into a track bike, I have a Uly as my main street bike.

Thx

Its not cheap, and its not easy, but it can be done. Essentially to convert the front, you would need pretty much everything in front of the gas cap.

The gearing isn't hard, just expensive. New swingarm, belt, pulley, and tensioner, then its a matter of getting the ECM reprogrammed to the new ratio.

The only way to make a conversion painless is to find another member local that wants to do the swap, and then spend the afternoon doing it. You wouldn't be the first, use the search and you will find pictures and lots of info.

I'd just leave the gearing alone and change the front end ALOT easier and cheaper for sure...but still a PITA...but hey its your bike..have fun ; ) and as long as the vin says its a CR then its a CR lol

I would imgagine the laws arent on the appearance of the bike but what is listed on the title. I really have no idea though.

Yeah the differentiation for R and CR are bassed on the VIN.

Yeah I think, I might just change the front end... and might make a chain drive conversion later so I could change the gear then.

Would it matter if you changed it? Typically, the VIN identifies the vehicle to the "illustrious overlords" and even if the bodywork and gearing is changed, they may see it as the bad bike.

no, you can do anything to a bike, all that matters is the VIN.

SHould you want to buy an sv650 for example (not high risk) and frakle it into a race track worth monster you would still be considered a basic motorcycle like a V-strom. All that matters is the VIN on your registration.

As an interesting side note 1125R bikes are selling $2,500 to $3,000 less than comparable 1125CR bikes in Quebec because of the yearly $1,300 surcharge.

So if anybody is interested in an 1125R make sure you search Quebec.

just buy all the stuff. its about $1000. if you take off the front windscreen on the cr. you will see where the r fairing mounts on the frame. all you need is the fairing, fairing bracket, windshield, light harness, light housings and mirrors. you can leave the IC and the ignition alone. you may even be able to fit the high bars behind the fairing without modification.

One of the nice advantages of this conversion is that moving the CR speedo assembly to the fairing gives you an excellent place to mount a GPS...
