So I have the manual that came with the bike and now I have the (official factory) manual so how do I determine what the engine codes meen without going to the dealer. I thought they'd be in the manual guess I was wrong. So is there another book I can buy or am I out of luck on this

My 09 reads a code description in the cluster push hold both buttons turn key on then scroll through them

you need the electrical diagnostics manual also

Post the codes here, plenty of us have the electrical manual and will tell you what the errors are. It may not be as fast as you flipping through a book, but you'll get the answer pretty quick usually.
