A few weeks ago I showed up to the local dealer for the leaky clutch cover & the install of the harness and I got a free dyno out of it. It was bike night and HD dealer was running "first 25 bikes" get a dyno run. Apparently there was a competition to see who had the highest WHP. I was disqualified for being a water cooled motor.

All the modded HDs were getting around 62-67whp..

It was actually a lot of fun being around the HD guys. It was even more fun when my bike gathered the biggest crowed and everyone was sympathetic when the subject about HD killing Buell came up.

Just wanted to share

So a bone stock XB is air cooled and will put down 85 on a conservative dyno : D

That silver bike was a huge disappointment..Poor guy spent tons of money on a stroker kit and it only put down 67whp

BTW my name is not Earl..They fudged that up in the computer. I don't understand who they mess up Eric and Spell Earl instead lol

It would be fun to have a full exhaust and a tuned ECM to bring some extra ponies to the table

Decisions Decisions.

I wonder how much power is added by ram air in real world riding

Highscore reports that there are no real world benefits of the 'Ram Air' for someone who is riding on the street.

I hit 151mph the other day with no inner air box and she was still pulling....

How much were the AMA Racing Buells putting down? At one point I think I read that they were @150whp

Has anyone done close to those numbers with Full exhaust, Air Filter & tune? just curious

Gee, not the claimed 145 hp. I'm guessing I have never used over 80 of those hp (if that). Hell, anything above 5Krpm in 2nd gear is typically illegal.

Spending a dime to get more HP out of this engine seems penny foolish to me.

The claim is 146 crank HP. All vehicle manufacturers, including automobiles, use crank measurements for their spec sheets. Since your profile says you are an engineering manager, perhaps you already know that and your joke didn't come across as intended due to the lack of voice inflection. Of course you would also then already know that all dynamometers do not measure the same and that there is a significant difference between an inertial dyno and an eddy current dyno. With the high cost of improving the output of an already high-performance engine, I would call it "pound foolish" unless you are racing.

170 Rear wheel HP on the 1125RR in AMA Superbike trim.

Hell these bikes got plenty of power, I am thinking of swapping on the restricted French throttle bodies to reduce the output.

To each it's own. hehe I just think modding is a hobby for some of us..I do it to keep myself entertained. And by far this 1125CR is the longest of any vehicle that I have owned without me getting some power mods. I just can't decide on what exhaust to get

Sorry what I meant was the 1125R. The one that raced in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike category.

The DSB bikes were nearly showroom stock, only engine mods were the Buell race pipe, different airbox, and a tune. Rest of the mods were things like fairings and chain drive, but they were claiming 140+ rear wheel HP.

There will be some variance depending on the dyno and weather and such, but a bone stock 1125 is typically high 120's stock.

It was from a Bike magazine and the guy being interviewed was from the Buell racing team.

For what I can remember he said that they are at least making 150whp at every race

Some of the Dyno sheets that I have seen floating around the forums..are hardly ever with SAE correction. And if you asked the OP they just say that that was the dyno graph they received. Very little feedback.

But yeah. I'll be more then happy to get close to those numbers. Wish that those euro chin fairings were not so expensive..Just don't like the look of the bare pipe just hanging there.
