So I did my first oil change on the 1125R last night and I don't think I could have made more of a mess if I tried! Used the large foil roasting pan trick and the sidestand punctured it and caused a leak on the garage floor... gonna pick up a cheap plastic "under bed" tote for next time.

Filter looked like new, but the plug was pretty sludgy at 627 miles. My only worry was reinstalling the filter cover without a tourque wrench... so hopefully I have it tight enough/not too tight! Think I like doing oil changes better on the S3!

I use tin foil and electrical tape to tape a temporary funnel to the engine case, just under the oil filter cover. It makes the job way less messy.

The sludge is probably assembly lube. I did my first oil change with about 50 miles on the bike and there was plenty of that gunk in there.

Yep a nice drain pan does wonders. I use some Al foil under the filter and covering the sidestand. Last 2 changes I did the RH plug first so I didn't have to worry about the plume on the left side.

See, that's why I like this forum. The little nuggets of information are sure to be helpful. Never thought of doing the right side first...thanks CC for the "I wish I had a V8" moment.

All you gotta do is cut off the bottom of a milk jug and use it to catch the oil. The thin plastic molds to whatever shape and you need to into the tight spaces under the drain plugs (especially the left side.) YOu can even catch the oil that normally leaks from the oil filter hole down the sidestand.

I did my first change this morning, and I noticed that the left plug was torqued down to about eleventy million ft-lb.

Otherwise, uneventful except for the gushing goo from the left drain when I finally got it out. Position the basin accordingly !
