Does anybody have instructions on how to remove the battery from the 1125r? I just received my brand new '08 and the voltmeter reading on the battery is 11.8 (which is a 0% charge). There is not a whole hell of a lot of room to pull the battery out through the rear seat or even the front seat, so I'm hoping someone has good instructions on how to remove and install so I don't break something.

its a PITA for sure...

1. Take off the rear platics (its a few torqs screws, the tool is in the tool kit)
2. Unstrap the battery & and disconnect it LOL
3.(the fun part) try to finagle it out between the crossmember and the fuse box. (it WILL come out just takes patience)
4.reverse procedure to get it back in, the only PITA putting it back in really is re-strapping the battery lol..

it takes between 30-45min MAX....take your time and it will come out, and it gets easier the more you do it ; )

There is a junction box right at the bottom of the battery, there is a little tab on the outer part of the box. Then lift the box out of the way. There is plenty of room to get the battery out. I have done this and not had to remove the tail section at all.

Thanks guys.

Is there a specific battery that I should purchase (preference question) to replace the stock battery? I know the stock one is a 12AH batt, and I shouldn't buy a battery that is lower than this since I'm already having problems with keeping the bike running for short rides...

I just got back from deployment, so my 1125 sat for a year. Since my wife never started I need to replace mine also. What is the best to put in the bike.

Removal and installation of a battery for a 1125CR Buell

1) Remove back seat with key.
2) Remove 2 screws from front seat
3) Remove top 3 screws from fairing
4) Remove lower 2 screws from fairing and pull to the side.
5) Unstrap battery
6) Remove + and - terminal screws
7) Unhook fuse box in front of battery from metal bracket and pull slightly forward
8) Remove battery - you can remove the fuse box cover next to it if you need some more room.
9) Reassemble in reverse with new battery that is the right size. Yo may many to install a cable for a battery tender if you live in a climate that you can not ride it year around.

It takes less then a half hour as long as you do not need to go to batteries + twice.

Just finished this particular cluster...

1) Remove back seat with key.

Easy enough.

2) Remove 2 screws from front seat

They are located underneath the rear corners of the front seat. Getting a torx driver under there to take them out involves bending the back corners of the seat up at almost a 70-90 degree angle.

3) Remove top 3 screws from fairing

Easy.

4) Remove lower 2 screws from fairing and pull to the side.

Easy.

5) Unstrap battery

Requires a lot of force. Battery strap goes on a lot easier than it comes off.

6) Remove + and - terminal screws

Easy.

7) Unhook fuse box in front of battery from metal bracket and pull slightly forward

Easy

8) Remove battery - you can remove the fuse box cover next to it if you need some more room.

Easy once the fuse box cover is removed.

9) Reassemble in reverse with new battery that is the right size. Yo may many to install a cable for a battery tender if you live in a climate that you can not ride it year around.

I'd strongly advise putting a cable for a battery tender on there.

I was thinking I might want to get a nicer seat for it at some point, but as hard as it is to get at the bolts that anchor down the seat, I don't know that a seat that isn't bendable would work...

Old_mil, before they closed, American Sportbike had quick release seat fasteners. It replaces the stock mounting hardware with a cotter pin and a threaded piece with an eye hole at the top. Makes it easy to remove or reinstall the seat, even a thick aftermarket one. If you do a search on here you can find more information
